Kilmashogue Winter League race - Preliminary report by Douglas Barry
The Kilmashogue race saw Eoin Keith once again having the indian sign on his close rival Paul Nolan, and he forged a 34 second win over the former Irish international whose forte is a withering descent. Well, the withering descent didn't work on this occasion and the Setanta runner took both the win and the 2003 Leinster Winter League with one race still to go. Hey, note that this next race has had a change of venue. Check the website! Eoin doesn't have to worry about the venue change anyway as the League trophy is now his - and last year he had to be satisfied with the bronze. Well done Eoin!! (pronounced Ian).
In contrast, Beth McCluskey continued her 2002 form with her third win on the trot to ensure that she kept the Leinster Winter League trophy for another year. Beth continued her act of humbling most of the men with yet another top ten finish: she finished in 8th some six minutes ahead of the second woman, current international Nicky Cinnamond. Karina Teahan was third woman only 37 seconds behind Nicky.
In the vets, Irene Walsh won the F40, while the perennial Jane Watt took the F50. Adrian Tucker took the men's M40 race with a good fifth place overall just ahead of Paul Moran in seventh and Kevin Grogan in tenth. The revitalised Maurice O'Hara was well ahead in the M50 while Sean Lambe took the M60 and Mike Gomm the M70. The best male junior was Jonathan Herbert who did the long course while FJ Siobhan Murphy won the short course.
Remember that venue change........
