Glasnamullan RaceReport by Douglas Barry
Mark Doyle continued his winning ways with an excellent victory in the Glasnamullan race over Irish Trail running champion Eoin Keith. The 12 kilometre race took in the mountains of Djouce and War Hill and tested the 60 strong field in what was the penultimate race of the 13 race Leinster League series. Keith, battling for the chance to finish second overall in the League, saw his chance slip away, but still came through on the long run-in to pip Declan Doyle who had held second spot for most of the race.
A new star was born in the women's race when Ruth Doyle - no relation to Mark - came through to win in an impressive time that was only 3 minutes off Una Creagh's record. Ruth was running her first hill race. Emma Sokell took second as she continues to recover from her injury, but was only a few seconds ahead of Eva Mulleady who lopped a massive 6 minutes of her time from last year.
While no records fell in the main categories, Simon Walters set a new record for the Over 40 vets taking 3 minutes of Rob Hartviksen's time. Graham Porter did the same to Brian Byrne's time in the Over 50s , while Jane Watt also just took the record held by Marian Hughes in the Women's Over 40 category.
