Big turnout for Millstreet Classic

The weather smiled on beautiful Mount Clara near Millstreet on Sunday for the 2nd leg of the Munster Hill Running Championship when up to 50 athletes ran the scenic course in ideal weather conditions. This entry was up by over 100% on last year which augurs well for hill running in Munster.
Former World Hill running champion John Linehan was first home in a time of 30:08 with Paul Nolan of RDA Dublin second in 31:16 and Willie Guiney of Desmond Currans A.C. in third on a time of 33:50
The ladies race was dominated by athletes from the Riocht Club in Castleisland when Majella Diskin finished in first place in 40:57 on her welcomed return to the hills after a Sabbathical. She led fellow club members Ailish Brosnan and Mary Linehan home in 2nd and 3rd positions on 41:35 and 45:46 respectively.
The veteran men?s race was won by Mick McAuliffe of the Riocht Club in 33:31 with Paddy Hegarty of Eagle A.C. 2nd on 36:46 whilst athletes from Limerick A.C. won the super vets category when Bernard Collins and Joe Laffan were home first and second respectively on 40:11 and 44:06.
The Junior men?s race was won by Fergal Fitzmorris of Ballyduff in 34:36 with Sean Hayes of Ennis Track club second on 35:40 whilst the women?s Junior race was won by Joanne Carroll of Millstreet A.C. on 49:09 with her club mate Caroline Dennehy 2nd on 49:58.
The J/J race was won by Anthony Feery of Clonmel A.C. in a time of 42:21.
