Devastating Performance By Lenihan On Doon !!

Former World Mountain Running Champion John Lenihan (Riocht A.C) showed that there is lots of grist in the mill yet when he returned to top class competition after serious injury to win the Doon Hill Run on a superb time of 33.30 on Sunday the 2nd April 2000.
Doon, first of the Munster Championship races of the year was well attended and the weather was superb. The good news about Doon was the number of new people competing that had been attracted from ranks of Track, Road and Cross Country disciplines and they really lapped it up.
The serious contenders of this new breed of Mountain Runner were Bernard Feary, St Catherines , 2nd.to Lenihan on 35.13 while on his first ever Mountain Race. Some of many other new men on the hill were Tadhg Vaughan Coolquil A.C.(4th over-all) Tom Fitzgerald and Brian Hartnett, West Limerick A.C.7th and 8th over-all respectively on 37.32.and 37.54.
First of the ladies was Kay White of Coolquil A.C on 49.54 from Catherine Quinn U/L.on 57.49 with Emer Browne of Ballyhoura 3rd.on 63.34.
First 2 Veteran Men were Mick McAuliffe, Riocht A.C.(35.57) And Paddy Hegarty Eagle A.C.(39.15). First 2 Super Vets were Bernard Collins and Joe Laffan both of Limerick A.C on 40.16 and 48.03 respectively.
Sean Hayes of Ennis Track Club led the Juniors home on 36.32 followed by Martin Bradshaw of Bilbao A.C on37.16 First J/J on his first ever Mountain Run was Anthony Feary of Clonmel A.C on 45.17.
