2001 Munster Championship Mountain Running
Mount Claragh Hill Run Results - Brief report by Douglas Barry
The 14 times Carrauntoohil winner John Lenihan decided against trying to retain his All Ireland crown on Flagstaff - the major race of the weekend. Instead, the former world champion beat off his younger Kerry neighbour John Barrett and successful orienteer Conor Creedon to take the Claragh mountain race in the heart of the town of Millstreet, Co. Cork. This tough little Munster championship race which was postponed due to the Foot and Mouth crisis earlier in the year - postponed so quietly in fact, that this webmaster didn't even know it! - also saw a narrow victory by Blaithin Hannon over former Irish international Ailis Brosnan with local heroine Mary Finn taking an easy third place. Fuller report later.
