The next race in the Munster mountain-running championship is to be held in County Tipperary on 27th July 2008. Originally it was to take place on 20th July but this was changed to coincide with the festival taking place in Kilcommon village (4.5 kilometers outside Caher). The event starts at 1pm sharp with entries being taken from 12pm onwards in the village hall. The race is over 7.5 kilometres of challenging enough terrain beginning in Kilcommon before going to the top of the hill and back to village to finish. Starting into grass fields, the race goes across a river and up on to forest tracks for about 600m and then heads up through closed forest trail 300m on up through a bog fire break for 400m which leads runners on to open mountain where they follow a well-marked route to the top. Competitors then turn and come back down on the same route. Joggers, walkers and competitive athletes are all welcome. ?This is an all-terrain course from flat running to crossing through rivers to fast running on forest track and tough running over bog.? Race organiser, Martin Bradshaw, goes on to say that ?[the organisers are] looking for all types of sports people to take part from serious sports competitors to walkers, joggers and thrill seekers ? all are welcome! There will be plenty of food supplied after the race free of charge and prizes for top finishers in the different categories along with some spot prizes?. Martin can be contacted on 087-9591374.

At this stage in the Championship, Donal Coffey is leading the way following two third positions and a second. Limerick man Tom Blackburn is tied in second place with Clare athlete Thomas Walsh ? both of whom are also battling out the over-40?s men?s championship ? although another Limerick man, Keith Ryan, might upset that situation yet. In the over-50?s category, County Limerick-based runner Joe Ahern is really putting the pressure on with great consistent results so far. His wife, Kathleen Ahern, who turned to running for the first time this year and has run all the 2008 Munster championship races to date, has also being producing very steady performances. In the senior women?s championship, Maureen Foley (Limerick) is barely keeping ahead of Loretto Duggan (Clare) ? a situation that could well be reversed in the Mautherclay race.
