Ewan CunninghamMay 12 2025, 7:21amHi everyone,
First race of the new Galway League coming up soon in Kylebrack Woods and it’s a cracker of a race! Starting the league off strong with this relatively flat course winding through the woods of Kylebrack.
Suitable for beginners, it’s a great course with a mix of single Forrest trail, open bog trail (very dry don’t worry!) and a small bit of fire road!

Junior and short course is just over 4k and the main race will be 11k. Make sure you try get to this as it’s a brand new race and we could have a route of the year on our hands here!

Anyone around to volunteer let me know I’ll take all the help I can get and I’m looking forward to seeing you all soon!

Ewan.
Patricia RyanMay 12 2025, 11:07amYeah, I've ran this course and it's great fun. Looking forward to it.
Miriam MaherMay 12 2025, 11:34amLooking forward to this one.

Big shout out too to our youngest RD ever, Ewan, taking this race on!

Please support Ewan by signing up to volunteer and ensure this event is a great success as it kick starts the Galway League.

Miriam

Ewan CunninghamJun 2 2025, 2:07pmCourse is looking good now after a lot of cleaning up! Entry now open also, so make sure you get yourself booked in! Hopefully we will have a cracking day for it and with Loughrea only over the road for a post race plunge…
Robert CunninghamJun 2 2025, 2:36pmHi Denise,
Thanks for volunteering.
I've added you to the volunteer list on the event page.
Ewan will send an email to all volunteers a few days before with information.
I was up in Kylebrack woods yesterday and ran the route for the race, it's a very good course with technical forrest trail and fast fire road.
Lovely little pub across the road aswell for refreshments.
Aidan HoganJun 2 2025, 2:57pmHi Ewan,

Great to see this new course and a new generation of race directors cutting their teeth.

Is the junior race / short course starting at same time a long course or are they staggered? What is lower age limit for juniors?
Ewan CunninghamJun 2 2025, 8:15pmHi Aidan,

Junior race starting at 10:15 and is 4km. Juniors must be at least 6 years old on the day of the race to be able to participate! Hope this helps.
Aidan HoganJun 2 2025, 8:33pmThat’s great. Thanks Ewan.
Louis CoyneJun 9 2025, 12:13pmCan juniors sign up on the morning, my daughter is going to do it. Can't see where to sign her up and I am already registered
Patricia RyanJun 9 2025, 7:01pmIf your child is running the junior short course then yes, they need to be registered online beforehand. No entry on the day. They don't need their own email, just put a "+" in front of your email address when setting them up and correspondence will reach your inbox.
Ewan CunninghamJun 12 2025, 3:58pmHi everyone, closing in on raceday so just make sure you’ve got yourself registered before Friday evening at 6. Course is looking really well and we’re set for a brilliant race weekend!

Patricia RyanJun 13 2025, 4:26pmDon't forget your rain jacket, it's mandatory for everyone. Carpool if you can.
Brian HouriganJun 14 2025, 4:01pmHi folks. Thanks to everyone for organising, volunteering and racing today. The course was an excellent wooded trail and thoroughly enjoyed the run through the meandering woods (especially around all the felled trees, different world from dancing around the peat hags last week). Sandwiches and tea were top notch as well. Well done to Ewan and the rest of the crew for setting this up. Hope this is on the calendar next year!
Edel HennessyJun 14 2025, 4:55pmThanks to Ewan & all the volunteers today. Well done! Really enjoyed the route & great refreshments afterwards! Hopefully it'll be an annual race & get a dip in Lough Rea afterwards!
Louis CoyneJun 14 2025, 6:05pmThanks Guys, loved it out there today, the course was a serious challenge with the different terrain and route. My daughter loved the challenge.
Can't wait for the next one.
Micheal McSweeneyJun 14 2025, 7:27pmThanks Ewan and all the crew for a great race today. Well done on your first RD role.
Flat fast trails, nice sandwiches and cake after, and good company. Sure beats cutting the hedge. But now my neighbours won't get to sleep in tomorrow morning. :-)
sile ryanJun 14 2025, 8:15pmWell done Ewan on your debut as RD. A super course with a little bit of everything and a fantastic bunch of cheery volunteers. Hope this becomes a regular on the calendar!
Miriam MaherJun 14 2025, 8:41pmSuperb outing Ewan as a first time RD, youngest EVER RD and also kicking off the Galway League! Thanks to you and all the other volunteers for giving us a great morning on the trails.

Loved the route with the many gnarly narnia like forest trails - a full on proper trail race.

Lovely crowd, great Munster support for one of their own ;-)

Sandwiches and coffee and cake in the Hill pub afterwards hit the mark perfectly before we headed home.

Hope this does become a regular, we just need a few more locally based people like Ewan to be available!
Vivian O'GormanJun 14 2025, 8:44pmThank you all for a great run today. Well done Ewan on
your first time as RD...
The run through the woods was very enjoyable and all
well marked...
I just thought that the distance wasn't long enough and went
on a more scenic route for the extra km!!!....as you do!
But I did find my way home!...

Declan GormanJun 15 2025, 12:59pmEwan, well done on RD. Well done on chosen route, fantastic and enjoyable. Refreshments were a great treat. I can see it becoming a very popular venue. Great kick off to the Galway League.
Martin CooneyJun 15 2025, 3:53pmCongrats and Thanks to Ewan Cunningham on his first RD, a massive success, helped also by all of his family. Thanks to the volunteers for giving up their day to let us all run.
Congrats to Henry Browne on his race win & to whoever was the first lady (this report was written before race results went up).

My race report is gone up- hope it does the race justice!

Alice ClancyJun 15 2025, 10:58pmThank you Ewan and the volunteers for a lovely morning in Kylebrack yesterday! That route was so much fun some of us felt the need to run some additional loops. (Great potential for this to become the Howth of the West ;-)
It's great to see a new race in this beautiful area! Well done Ewan on getting this started and roll on next year!
Jan TomasekJun 16 2025, 9:38amHi,
Lot of people got lost on Saturday.
I know it is not easy to mark the trail and definitely runners make mistakes even if it is marked 100%.
So I am wondering why we mark race like this as "GPS not allowed"?
I think if given GPX filles and being allowed to use them in watch, we can keep the number of issues to minimum. There are probably runners that don't have GPS watch, but even they would benefit from people around sticking to the track.
Regards,
Jan
Vivian O'GormanJun 16 2025, 2:46pmHi All,

Just had a shower and found a Tick!!!

Didn't see it after the race or yesterday. So no harm
in checking yourselves just in case...
