Robert Malseed | May 26 2025, 8:42pm | It's quite off putting to have a severe downhill section at the start of the national trials for the world mountain running uphill championship |

There is a short distance of flat road and then a short downhill section of approx 50m before the climb starts. Any race organiser would concur that it helps to stretch out the field before a race commences proper and any avoid bottle-neck situations. Very often in the World or European Champs courses, the races start in small villages, it cross bridges, it runs down local roads or up farm tracks, before taking a forest track to the Gods. I would also point out that Uphill/only athletes should have the ability to get down from their climb :) So a small bit of downhill should be doable for all involved. |
