Liam BoweApr 8 2025, 2:00pmNow that round 1 of LC is completed, any IMRA folk from the capital or further afield, who take their Easter break down Wexford way could have a look at the new route on Mount Leinster for round 2. Map posted on race page.

Worth escaping to run this some morning or, when the wind drops a little, in the evening. The route now takes in Black Rock, East Top, Mount Leinster and back. A little distance and elevation added to previous editions.

Black Rock to Mount Leinster is 2 miles of open mountain running with a few different options to gain advantage on your closest rivals. So, well worth a recce, especially in this weather.
Liam BoweJun 1 2025, 9:49amTwo weeks out from round 2 of LC on Mt Leinster.

Thanks to all who have volunteered. Sorted on the non-running side. Could do with 2 non-running volunteers to look after parking in the field. So if you're planning on venturing down to south east for this I'd be grateful if you could do this. You'll be done half an hour before race start with plenty of time to warm up.
Liam BoweJun 4 2025, 8:37pmHi folks, I could do with 1 more running volunteer to give an hour of their time between 10:30 and 11:30 on the morning of this race.
Thank you.
Richard GallagherJun 4 2025, 9:03pmHi Liam, putting myself forward to help as running volunteer.
Liam BoweJun 4 2025, 10:31pmThanks Richard.

All sorted for volunteers now.
Email will be sent early next week.
Brian BerginJun 7 2025, 7:56amHi Liam, Looking forward to joining the helpers since meeting you after the Devils Glen race.
Liam BoweJun 7 2025, 3:20pmThanks Brian. I'll add your name to the volunteer list.

No need for anymore volunteers here. Derek may need one or two more for the Blackstairs race the following day if you want to put your name down there.
Liam BoweJun 9 2025, 8:39amGood morning all, registration for round 2 of LC on Mt Leinster opens at 9am.

Please note that this is, for the most part, open mountain with free route choice. So, the route is not marked and navigation skills will be required, particularly if the weather is mixed. Also note, kit required has been set at Advanced with map of route and compass required.

The map on the race page details the well trodden path out and back over Black Rock to the Mt Leinster summit. If you can follow this, the race is a good entry level to open mountain running.

CPs: Start, cairn on Black Rock peak, concrete stay at eastern side of RTE mast, back to cairn on Black Rock, Finish.
(Couple of photos posted for some assistance)
Caitriona Nic CabaJun 9 2025, 11:33pmHi Liam,
Will there be kites/controls/marshals on the CP positions? Also is there a short course for this? Thanks
Caitríona
Liam BoweJun 10 2025, 10:10amCaitriona, there will be a marshal (with hi-vis vest) at the CPs taking your IMRA number.
I am not planning on giving a short course option.
James HeggieJun 10 2025, 4:36pmLiam is a print off of the map on the page enough or do you need the full map ?
Liam BoweJun 10 2025, 5:07pmYes James, that map should be good enough.

I intend to mark the first kilometer to get everyone out on the commonage and away from private land/farmyards. So, the only real navigating is due west from the cairn on Black Rock to the RTE mast at the summit of Mt Leinster and then due east back to the cairn on Black Rock again.

Now, there are numerous ways off the beaten track up to Black Rock from the commonage on the way out, and down from Black Rock to the finish which are entirely up to each individual to try out (risk!) and navigate.

For clarity, CPs are:
1. Start
2. Cairn on Black Rock (599m OD)
3. Concrete stay on eastern side of RTE mast at summit (c.780m OD)
4. Cairn on Black Rock
5. Finish
Liam BoweJun 11 2025, 10:45pmEmail sent to volunteers with race day details.

For all:
We get the use of a local man's field/back garden for parking immediately adjacent to the start/ finish line. For this, there will a €3 charge per car which will be given as a thanks to this man.

Presentation at the finish line:
1,2,3 medals for first three men and women.
Tea, sandwiches and a slice of cake for everyone too at the finish line.
Andy KeelingJun 12 2025, 8:27amAs we pass the half way mark of the season I'd like to thank everyone who has given in gear for our donations at the races. Gear is already getting to people who need it and is very appreciated. I'll be at the South east races on Saturday and Sunday in the Blackstairs if any South-easterners have any unused gear they'd like to donate. Also, the rest of the Leinster league, the big blue bag will be there if anyone has anything to throw in. Thanks guys. IMRA abú!
Catriona NangleJun 13 2025, 12:26pmHi Liam and all does anyone know what the conditions underfoot are like on the mountain at the moment?
Liam BoweJun 13 2025, 12:54pmReminder: entries close for Mount Leinster at 6pm this evening.

Registration will open in the morning at 11:00 and close at 11:50.
Race brief at 11:55, immediately adjacent to registration.
Take care entering the car park as the owner has more timber than usual in his yard before entering the field.

Please bring €3 in coins for the car park charge.

The weather forecast is for rain with light winds. I expect the summit and even lower down to be well covered. Navigation skills and full advanced kit will be required - kit will be checked at registration.

Catriona, I was up there yesterday evening and it was a lot wetter than I expected with the recent rain. Multi-terrain shoes recommended.
Joseph OconnorJun 13 2025, 8:47pmHi Liam I messed up with the registration for the race tomorrow if I turn up early in the morning can I register and partake
Liam BoweJun 13 2025, 9:52pmSorry Joseph, on line registration only and this closed at 6pm.

There is a race on Sunday morning on the nearby Blackstairs that is still open to register for, if that suited.
Joseph OconnorJun 13 2025, 9:58pmThanks for coming back to me
Liam BoweJun 13 2025, 10:28pmFolks, limited amount of hot water post race tomorrow. So, if you could bring a flask of water it would help and everyone should be able to enjoy a cuppa, sandwich and slice of cake whilst regaling the misadventures of the previous 2 hours.
Liam BoweJun 14 2025, 6:29pmWell done on to all who took on Mount Leinster today in a slightly different version of the traditional route via the Black Rock. Good feedback post-race on the new route (kudos to Paul Kelly and Liam Vines for initiating this).

Sarah WhelanJun 15 2025, 10:40amHi Liam, I wore my last years IMRA number yesterday 294 by accident instead of this years number 3411. Just realized when I took number off singlet when got home. Sorry about that. Hope it didn’t cause confusion. Sarah Whelan.
Liam BoweJun 15 2025, 1:05pmIt had confused me alright doing the results sheet but I figured it out by looking at a few pics from your previous races. All good though and thanks for the message. Throw 294 in the bin!
Jeff SwordsJun 16 2025, 8:28pmResults published, thanks to Liam for getting them over.
