Same story as the Friday night run regarding gear and attitude. :-)

There are currently 2 pods left available for the Friday night, and 4 for the Sat night.
There are 4/5 spaces left for camper vans.
Booking can be made directly with David in Top of the Rock on 086 1735134.
No pre booking required for tents, or for those that will be throwing a sleeping bag down in the upstairs hall room.

Dermot MeehanJan 9 2025, 9:58amHi,
I'm planning to enter and travel down from Louth on the 7th and stay with a friend who lives quite close to the finish. Can anyone advise is there any travel plans from the finish to the start point on the Saturday morning? Obviously have no problem driving myself round to the start point but don't want to be then left at the end carless? TIA
Robert CunninghamJan 9 2025, 10:17amThere will be buses early Saturday morning from Top of the rock(finish & Reg) to the start.
Dermot MeehanJan 9 2025, 10:31amPerfect, thanks for the reply Robert
Martin StevensonJan 9 2025, 10:56amAnyone got a spare bed in one of the pods
Michael McSweeneyJan 9 2025, 11:14amMight be a change of times for the Kealkil to Drimoleague reccee on Sunday. Might be starting earlier. I'll know for sure tomorrow.
Colette O' DonoghueJan 9 2025, 11:24am@Martin, you can bring a sleeping bag with you, and bunker down in the Upstairs Hall in Top of the Rock, no pre booking required for this. Charge of about €20 for this afaik
Eoin PhelanJan 14 2025, 11:18amHi,
Are we allowed to use poles in this event and what is the cost of the bus from the finish line to the start line on the morning? or is that included in the overall cost?

Thanks,
Eoin
Michael McSweeneyJan 14 2025, 1:48pmEoin.
Yes you can use poles.
Bus price is included in the race entry fee, as is the top, the pizza and the beer.
Micheal.
Jean-Matthieu SchaffhauserJan 15 2025, 1:32pmHi,
Is registration at finish line opening the day before or just the same morning please? I'm hoping to catch the bus to the start line, what time do you recommend arriving please ?

Jenny MullarkeyJan 25 2025, 10:20amHi everyone, just wondering where to get a map for the event? First time doing an IMRA run. Thanks a mil
Kevin BroughtonJan 25 2025, 10:16pmJenny we’d usually just bring an OS map, I think this route crosses two maps though (79 and 85).
It’s usually allowed to have the route loaded on your watch (the gpx file on the map on event page) but whether you still have to carry an actual map would be at the discretion of race director and would usually only be the case for well marked routes (I don’t know if that applies to this route)
Jenny MullarkeyJan 26 2025, 8:18pmHi Kevin, thanks so much for the reply. So the downloaded route onto my watch will suffice for the map so you think?
Kevin BroughtonJan 26 2025, 11:30pmSorry Jenny my first reply was badly worded!
The map and compass is mandatory so you will need to carry these.
You’re allowed to use the map on your watch, but still have to carry the actual map as an emergency back up

Except in specific cases where the RD says it’s not necessary to carry a map, I don’t think it’s been mentioned for this race so assume you’ll need the maps(s)
Michael McSweeneyJan 27 2025, 6:36pmJenny,
The route will be fully marked. However, in case you go totally off grid, you will need some form of navigation. Map (79 & 45) and compass, or one of those fancy GPS gismos (with route loaded) will suffice.
See you in Drimoleague.
Micheal.
Jenny MullarkeyFeb 1 2025, 5:30pmHi Kevin and Michael, thank you for your replies, great help. Thanks a mil

Colm DeasyFeb 4 2025, 10:31amDoes anyone have the route saved on Strava? Would like to have it on the phone!
Colette O' DonoghueFeb 4 2025, 3:20pmHi Colm,
Can you use the plotaroute from the Event page?
https://www.plotaroute.com/route/2480112?units=km
Eoin PhelanFeb 4 2025, 11:07pmJust need some clarification on a few points .
I wont need to bring the maps and compass if i am using GPS on my watch/phone. correct?
will there be stickers at registration on the morning to mark the drop bags or do i need to do this in advance?
i know there is a cutoff point at 52Km Carriganass. Is there also a maximum time to finish the race or are we safe once we make the 4PM cutoff at 52KM?
rougly what % of the race is run on roads as im trying to figure out what trail runners to wear?
is this the exact same route as last year as i copied a finishers route from strava?

thanks,
Eoin

Also does the East West mapping "Galtee" cover the full route?

Colette O' DonoghueFeb 5 2025, 11:04amHi Eoin,
GPS is ok but it is also recommended to have the map & compass to hand also.
There will be stickers provided at registration to mark the drop bags.
Once you make the 4pm cut off at Carriganass you are good to continue as long as it takes!
I will let Micheal comment on the % of the race & route questions.
See you Saturday, Colette
Michael McSweeneyFeb 5 2025, 11:46amHi Eoin.
OS map 79 and 85 cover the route. I mistyped 45 in a previous post. Mid Cork and The real West Cork are a long way from the Galtees.
About one third of Route is on small tar roads but you will need grip
throughout.
Exact same route as last year. Don't be too stressed about markers and GPS, as the route is fully marked.
If you take too long to run from Carriganass to Top of the Rock all the pizza might be gone. ;-)
Patrick KissaneFeb 5 2025, 12:05pmOnce we get off the bus at the start, is there a box for jackets/pants that will be brought back to the finish line? So we can keep warm on the bus.
Eoin PhelanFeb 5 2025, 12:10pmThanks Michael and Colette for answering all my questions. Much appreciated
Robbie WilliamsFeb 5 2025, 12:17pmI’ll be going to start of ultra

Can bring stuff back to top of Rock
Michael McSweeneyFeb 5 2025, 1:43pmYour zeal for the adventure that lies ahead will keep you warm, plus Mick Cremin has a heater in the bus. :-)
James HeggieFeb 5 2025, 1:46pmJust to reiterate I did course last year and it’s really well marked . The last big climb up and down before the cutoff checkpoint is quiet challenging if windy last I broke a pole staying upright and time consuming so factor that in with your time scale if you can .
Patrick KissaneFeb 6 2025, 11:44amNot used to the cold down here in Costa Del Kerry you see. As long as the route passes a Starbucks or two, I'll survive.
Ciaran McAleenanFeb 6 2025, 3:12pmIs the tracker link available yet?
Robbie WilliamsFeb 6 2025, 4:24pmLink available after entry closes this evening so probably tomorrow morning
Ciaran McAleenanFeb 6 2025, 4:32pmThanks Robbie.

Alex LeeFeb 6 2025, 9:55pmHi all, I’m just wondering where we register for the event tomorrow evening. Thanks in advance
Mags HassettFeb 6 2025, 10:03pmTop of the Rock.
You should have received the email with all the details.
Roman van der KrogtFeb 7 2025, 9:36pmHi David,

I realised on my way back from registration that I hadn't mentioned explicitly to you that I won't need the bus in the morning to get to the start. I did mention it to the good folks doing the actual registration, and gave them my drop bags, but want to make sure the bus isn't waiting for me :)

Thanks,
Roman.

Maeve O'GradyFeb 9 2025, 6:53amThanks so much to the team behind putting on an excellent race. Beautiful course, well marked, flawless logistics and friendly volunteers- I just need to train harder next time…
david yelvertonFeb 9 2025, 2:59pmHi all,
The results online for this event seem to be incorrect. We are correcting with our "pen and paper" records. Check back later for the verified results.
Apologies for any confusion.
Roll on Slí Chorcaí 2026.
David.
Raymond CumminsFeb 9 2025, 4:13pmI wanted to say a huge Thanks to everyone involved in organising the event, and especially to Michael at the end for bringing myself and Sarah back down to our cars in the village. Thanks for all the encouragement and support. It was a fantastic event.
As one of the later finishers in the dark having the flags so well placed made navigating in the dark much easier. Having been rescued down over Gouganebarra over 20 years by KWMRT it was nice to go my home county and in incredible weather and this time be able to enjoy it without getting lost. :-) See you in May.
Eileen KeohanFeb 9 2025, 9:34pmThanks to everyone involved, the organisers and volunteers, ye are just the best. Such a great event, from start to finish...even the tough parts!! Thanks for being kind with the weather too, the scenery was spectacular :D
Gavin DunneFeb 10 2025, 6:07amWhat an amazing race and so well organised from start to finish. Pizza and coke at the end was heaven. Thanks to all involved and all the volunteers'. You all did an amazing job.
Sarah KearnsFeb 10 2025, 10:56amHuge thanks to each and everyone that helped with the Sli Chorcai - what an event, I'm still remembering bits and going 'Wow, we did that!!!
The course was sooo well marked. With the sun shining most of the way so we could see the unbelievable views that were on offer helped soften the hard work underfoot. Great friendly faces at all the checkpoints so encouraging to spur you on to the next and eventually the warm welcome across the line :) See you all soon!
Johnston KirkpatrickFeb 10 2025, 5:21pmJust to a massive thanks to all those involved in the organisation of this brilliant event, right across the board from registion ,marshals at each point to the the finish line thank you hopefully be back to the beautiful west Cork soon !!!
Eoin PhelanFeb 16 2025, 6:18pmHi,
Just wondering why all the people who DNF'd are gone from the results for the page? on my profile my total races have also reduced by 1 but i checked someone elses profile who DNF'd the race and it shows up for them in their total + previous races they didnt finish. is this a new thing where those who dont finish dissapear from the results. just curious is all. thanks
david yelvertonFeb 16 2025, 8:53pmHi Eoin.
We will look at this issue tomorrow and see what went wrong. Until then, hold tough and we will sort this out.
Dave.
