Des Brennan | Dec 13 2024, 8:32am | Morning Guys, Only new to the Club, looking for some info regarding the Djouce run on the 27th of December. When will registration open for this event? Thanks in advance Des. |
John Shiels | Dec 13 2024, 9:19am | its usually a few days before the event |
Des Brennan | Dec 13 2024, 3:58pm | Thanks John ;-) |
Liam Vines | Dec 15 2024, 9:23pm | Storm Darragh has made some mess of Djouce woods including our Remembrance Race route, so we are moving to Pier Gates for parking and registration. Same date 27th December same time 10am race start. We are working on a route trying to take into account the large number of walkers and mountain bikers that will also be trying to use the same area on the morning. So, all I can tell you so far is there will be running probably some walking lots of muck a bit of fire road and some new trails. Keep an eye on the forum for more route updates. Entries will open on Wednesday morning. |
Andy Keeling | Dec 18 2024, 10:03am | There will be a gear collection for Trail Criú at the Djouce(Pier gates) Remembrance race on the 27th. All Running/ Outdoor/ Safety gear accepted. Hopefully Santa is good to you and brings you new trainers/ running gear. If Christmas does create surplus in your stash please consider passing on something that will help a fellow runner get out on the trails in the new year. It will be much appreciated. Many thanks. |
Paul O'Grady | Dec 18 2024, 1:48pm | Good afternoon Everyone, We are just over a week from the last race of the year. As Liam says, we have to move the race to a new location due to the damage caused by the storms. The start will now be the Pier Gates. The page has been updated with the new start location. If there is anyone that you want included in our list of remembrance, can you please send me an email or a text. paulogrady@live.com or 0862900827 |
Niamh O'Ceallaigh | Dec 18 2024, 4:37pm | Hi Everyone, I hope you are all looking forward to this new route. You are in for a treat with a route that offers lovely views of Lough Tay, Lough Dan and Round wood Reservoir. Once you park and register at the the pier gates car park, you will proceed across the main road to the forest entrance. The start will be a few hundred metres up forest track. You will have the chance to enjoy a varied selection of paths with lovely views. I few nice little climbs and descents but overall good and runable. We will get he route map up as soon as possible. I will be recommending a good few marshal locations to Paul so more volunteers would be greatly appreciated so that we can get everything covered. See you up there. Niamh |
Des Brennan | Dec 18 2024, 6:44pm | Thanks all for the updates. Would it be possible to share a location for the Pier Gate, or is it another entrance into Djouce Carpark? I’ll be travelling from Wicklow Town if anyone need a lift.. ;-) |
Clare Keeley | Dec 18 2024, 7:10pm | Hi Des, If you put in Aroma Coffee Van into Google Maps you will get the Pier gates carpark. Not sure how link below will work?! https://maps.app.goo.gl/PxqqzufxJQBrBVCu8?g_st=com.google.maps.preview.copy Clare |
Des Brennan | Dec 18 2024, 7:11pm | Thanks Clare |
Finn Moriarty | Dec 19 2024, 2:59pm | Hey there...Junior Distance not available to purchase in the Djouce/Pier Gates event |
Jeff Swords | Dec 19 2024, 3:26pm | Hi Finn, it should be there with you now if you want to take a look again. |
Finn Moriarty | Dec 19 2024, 3:31pm | Spot on,thanks Jeff Done and entered |
Keelin Holmes | Dec 21 2024, 9:39am | Morning, how do I get membership fir juniors, I don't see it? Thanks Keelin |
Paul Flynn | Dec 23 2024, 10:11am | Just wondering, what would the recommended footwear be for the new route? Are there any sections with deep mud? |
Mikey Fry | Dec 23 2024, 10:18am | Wellies:))))) |
Brian Farren | Dec 23 2024, 12:38pm | Hi Merry Christmas everyone. Just wondering when a map of the new route is going up. Thanks. |
Niamh O'Ceallaigh | Dec 23 2024, 5:00pm | Main route https://hiiker.app/maps/planned-trails/imra-remembrance-option-1--180184 Short Course: https://hiiker.app/maps/planned-trails/imra-remembrance-short-course--515678 Hopefully those will work for you. I'm not able to edit the event page, but Paul will pop them up soon. In terms of footwear, I will wear trail shoes. Definitely not road runners. Mountain runners would be great on sections of grassy descent but might be. Be a bit hard on the 600m fireroad at the start and finish. Also a couple of short sections of fire road occuring during the race. |
Niamh O'Ceallaigh | Dec 23 2024, 5:11pm | @keelin For junior registration, they need to have their own www.IMRA.ie profile. Once you set them up an account and log in on it, you will be able to purchase race entry and registration for them. |
Niamh O'Ceallaigh | Dec 23 2024, 5:19pm | NON RUNNING VOLUNTEERS NEEDED Additional non running volunteers are needed for this race. Due to he nature of the route, we will need at least 6 marshals on the route to keep everyone on track. There is currently not enough volunteers to cover marshalling and also take race times, numbers, registration etc. |
Louis Mullee | Dec 23 2024, 6:41pm | Hi Niamh, I've signed up for volunteering, happy to marshall:) |
Brian Farren | Dec 23 2024, 7:23pm | Thanks Niamh for the course maps. |
Paul O'Grady | Dec 24 2024, 5:06pm | Email gone out to all the Volunteers, just in case anyone isn't checking their emails over the next day or two. |
Richard Allan | Dec 24 2024, 7:48pm | Hello, Is there a way for my 14yr old daughter to race ? She’s not a member currently (though I plan to sign her up for next year). Richard |
Alan Ayling | Dec 24 2024, 9:45pm | Hey Richard, Entries closed at 6 this evening so the short answer is no. But you could bring your daughter along and run the short course route (long course too long from a 14 yo). She wouldn't be in the race as such, so no result or insurance... but would get a nice sense of what's involved. I wouldn't normally be saying this, but it's a big car park, plenty of room. And it's Christmas, so let's be accommodating :-) If running but not in the race, don't come through the finish! That causes all sorts of confusion! Just stop short and walk past, if asked by the finish line folk just say you're not in the race. |
Alan Ayling | Dec 24 2024, 10:08pm | Correction on that last post, entries aren't closing until the 26th. So option of buying membership ( I think it's reduced price for end of season) and race entry are still there. Preference would be do that rather than run unregistered. 2025 membership not applicable to this event! |
Henny Brandsma | Dec 25 2024, 9:45am | Hi, was going to enter this morning for piers gate race, but according we side race is sold out, was going to participate as a running volunteer if I am to late just change me to non running volunteer. Regards Henny. |
Henny Brandsma | Dec 26 2024, 10:31am | Hi problem solved seems to be solved and got entry in for tomorrow's racemerry Christmas to all of you. Henny |
Andy Walker | Dec 26 2024, 10:38am | Hi so it's confirmed there are entries available? Seem to be available to purchase but also says its a sold out product.. if do go ahead then it will be ok? Thanks |
Paul O'Grady | Dec 26 2024, 3:36pm | I’m getting messages that people are not able to register. Could one of the IT guys please check if there is an issue. Thanks. |
Cuan Docherty | Dec 26 2024, 3:51pm | Is this sold out or a glitch? I'll keep trying up to 1800. Thanks |
Richard Nunan | Dec 26 2024, 3:57pm | Hey Paul, let me get someone to have a quick look. Will post back here. |
Paul O'Grady | Dec 26 2024, 4:53pm | Thanks Richard |
Eamonn Hodge | Dec 26 2024, 5:06pm | I just bought an entry without issue. |
Richard Nunan | Dec 26 2024, 5:08pm | Just confirming, Sold out is a glitch. It's not closed. Will be at 18:00 Andy you are registered for tomorrow's race like Henny before you. |
Aoife Allan | Dec 26 2024, 5:26pm | Thanks AlanA for the steer! I'm cutting it a bit fine but how do I in practice purchase an entry for my now-registered daughter, when it's saying it's Sold Out with no option to actually buy ? |
Daniel Doran | Dec 26 2024, 5:43pm | Having the same issue as above, saying sold out. |
Cuan Docherty | Dec 26 2024, 5:46pm | When a junior trys to enter, they get a sold out, d ue to age restrictions and distance of the short/junior course. |
Aoife Allan | Dec 26 2024, 5:50pm | Thanks, suspected that. When logged in as myself it just tells me (rightly) I'm already entered, with no other options. Is there a way round this ? |
Miriam Maher | Dec 26 2024, 5:50pm | Evening all, Hope you all got over Christmas Day well! Apologies for the system issues with entering young juniors for the race tomorrow. We very recently enacted changes to the entry system to ensure juniors could only enter the appropriate race distance for their age. This has caused an unexpected glitch for this race. For anyone still looking to enter a junior tomorrow, bring them along and we will capture their details manually just for this race. All the best Miriam |
Aoife Allan | Dec 26 2024, 5:51pm | Great, many thanks Miriam |
Cuan Docherty | Dec 26 2024, 5:56pm | Junior glitch fixed. Thanks Kevin. |
Miriam Maher | Dec 26 2024, 5:59pm | And I’m back again:) The IT group worked at warp speed in the background to resolve that glitch and anyone still looking to enter - junior or adult - can do so until 7pm. We have extended the entry window. Thanks Kevin O'Riordan for resolving this issue! Miriam |
Andy Walker | Dec 26 2024, 6:26pm | Apologies if it's already been said but couldn't see in the description- what time is tomorrow's registration opening/closing? Thanks |
Paul O'Grady | Dec 26 2024, 7:13pm | Thanks Andy. Registration from 9.15. |
Andy Walker | Dec 26 2024, 7:16pm | Great, thanks Paul |

Alan Kennedy | Dec 27 2024, 1:49pm | Thanks Paul & crew for a great event to end the year. Especially Niamh for a great course, brilliantly marked, which made for some fun racing. Great to catch up with everyone and to remember past members. And what fab sunshine we had up there. |
Richard Fox | Dec 27 2024, 1:52pm | Thanks to Paul and many helpers for an amazing spin over a great course. So generous of the many helpers to give up their morning for our benefit, and what a morning it was - stunning. Thanks so much all foxy |
Elaine Casey | Dec 27 2024, 2:11pm | Really enjoyed that run, thanks to everyone who found and planned the new course, especially those out sawing logs at 9pm!!! |

Richard Allan | Dec 27 2024, 2:37pm | Thanks to everyone who made this morning’s run possible – it was superb. And sincere thanks for getting my daughter in at the last minute, she loved it too. |
Miriam Maher | Dec 27 2024, 2:53pm | What a route, day and gathering. Loads of people took time out of their Christmas holidays to make this happen. Special thanks to Niamh for the superb routes and excellent marking. And Liam for all the background work needed with the change of route post Storm Darragh. Every cloud though…what a super new route! A very special morning, remembering those who have gone and giving us a welcome chance to meet up with so many others, particularly great to see Patsy McCreanor and Leo Mahon back out on the trails! You’ve been missed lads. Happy new year to you all. Roll on 2025! |
Alistair Hodgett | Dec 27 2024, 3:36pm | Superb run today, thanks to all who made it happen. |
Liam Mooney | Dec 27 2024, 3:38pm | Thanks to all who made that race happen today. That was a super new route. And as always, the cheer and warmth of the IMRA community was only matched by the sun's apricity!! |
John Shiels | Dec 27 2024, 4:13pm | Great run today, absolutely fabulous. I found a pair of ladies Salomon running shoes in the car park afterwards. they are clean, and will be dry soon ready for reunification with their owner. if they are yours drop me a mail to john@actionphotography.ie and I will arrange for their return |
Anne Rush | Dec 27 2024, 4:53pm | Thanks John !! Was about to send out Salomon SOS. Will email |
Ken Cowley | Dec 27 2024, 4:58pm | Wow, what a route, and what a lovely event, today, well done to everyone involved. Speaking as one who no longer lives in Ireland, there is literally nothing like IMRA, in any other country. A highlight of my trip home, and for some others who were 'back for Christmas' too.. Final point; great use of the word 'apricity' Liam, I had to google that one, and noting it for Scrabble.. Happy new year! |
Paul O'Grady | Dec 27 2024, 5:57pm | Thank you to everyone for a very successful Remembrance Race. We had 220 runners out of 280 registered. And it went off without a (noticeable) hitch. Thank you to all the volunteers. You were very good to give up your morning so that others could run. Thank you to Liam for organizing the replacement location. Thank you to Niamh for planning and marking the new route, and organizing the marshal locations, and the fantastic weather! Thank you to all the Marshalls. We had great communication from the field so we knew that everyone was back. Thank you to everyone at registration, especially Caroline, who was the energizer bunny this morning, and got everything done. Thank you to Conor on the laptop. We had over 100 people running their first race today, so he had to issue a new chips to almost half the field. He then had to manually enter the results as the timing mat didn't co-operate. We are very lucky to have his expertise today. Thank you to Richard for giving bottles of wine to the volunteers. That was very kind of you. Thank you to all of you for coming out for a lovely morning. We had over 100 new members for this race. Hopefully you will all be back for the Winter League in January. It was also great to see so many children out for a Christmas run. Have a lovely rest of Christmas, and a fantastic New Year, and please keep our departed friends and loved ones in your thoughts over the next few days. |
Rachel Noblett | Dec 27 2024, 6:47pm | Great Day and a great race... just unpacking my gear and I am missing one Nike Gore-tex Green Runner... I must have left it on the ground when changing, Anybody happen to pick it up?? |
Niamh O'Ceallaigh | Dec 27 2024, 7:15pm | @Rachel, Graham Bushe found this. Contact me on. oh 85 one double 4 5209 and I'll put you in touch with him |
Niamh O'Ceallaigh | Dec 27 2024, 7:22pm | So what was that little ruined village that you picked your way through today.. " just follow the tape ... There is no path, just follow the tape..." It was the "Scots Village". There are some conflicting reports online regarding it's history but below is one of them source unknown ( a local historian that someone bumped into while out hiking). "The Scots had come to the village somewhat earlier – possibly sometime in the second half of the seventeenth century. They had been dispossessed of their land in Scotland as a result of the Highland Clearances at the time (there’s another long and unhappy story to tell there, too, but that can be for another day). However, by some quirk of fate that was glossed over today, their plight came to the attention of Peter La Touche, who lived in Luggala lodge – close to where the Scotch village is situated today. He was a wealthy banker and philanthropist. So he rescued a band of these dispossessed Scots and brought them over to the Luggala valley – to what is now Scotch Village – to start a new life. Unfortunately, lightning struck twice and more or less as soon as the families had escaped the Clearances, they or their descendants were hit by the Irish famine. However, the La Touche family came to the rescue again and bought them passage to Canada – so once more they escaped to a new land to start afresh – but leaving the village to collapse into ruin. The La Touche family themselves were emigres – Huguenots who arrived in Ireland from France after the Edict of Nantes was revoked in 1685, depriving French protestants of religious and civil liberties. So I imagine they felt a degree of communality with the Scots’ plight" It's an interesting little spot with stunning views of both Lough Tay and Lough Dan, so if you didn't get the chance to soak up the views, put it on your list of places to come back to at your leisure. |
Alice Clancy | Dec 28 2024, 11:37am | Thank you to Paul and all the volunteers for such a fun morning in the sun yesterday! Well done to Niamh and Liam…that new route is a cracker and a keeper methinks…lots of lovely technical bits and beautiful views! Some amount of route prep and branch lopping done in the background too…and we’ve gleaned some interesting history along the way….huge kudos to Niamh!!!! |
Laura Flynn | Dec 29 2024, 9:36am | Another great day out. Thanks to Paul, the volunteers and all involved in making it happen, especially Niamh and Liam. |
