Dan GeelonMay 6 2024, 4:41pmFolks, the Ayling Abyss is coming up soon and we could do with a few more volunteers especially a Laptop Operator, First Aid Officer, Race Marker and volunteers. Car Parking is FREE for all volunteers especially those who carpool, thanks to everyone who has volunteered already. Dan

Dan GeelonJun 8 2024, 9:25pmAndy Keeling on behalf of Trail Criu will be accepting gear donations at the Djouce Ayling Abyss race. Any items of running gear that is usable is very welcome, leggings, tops, shorts, trainers etc ..especially if anyone has spares of any items on the mandatory gear lists. All gear will be used to make races more inclusive to runners who might not have the means to assemble their own stash of mandatory gear. Thank you!
Tom SOMMERJun 10 2024, 9:14amHi IMRA carpoolers,
I'm looking for a lift a on Wednesday to get to Djouce.
Is anyone passing by Dublin city center on Wednesday? I'm based in Harold's Cross (D6).
Thanks,
Tom
Rob TobinJun 10 2024, 9:45amHi Tom, I'll be heading out from Rialto if you need a lift on Wednesday. My mobile number is oh ate seven won seven fore tutu ate five if you want to get in touch and we can figure out time and pick-up location.

Also, there are a couple of informal WhatsApp groups among IMRA members which are set up for arranging lifts from the city and surrounding areas - if you message me I can get you added to those.
Keith MulveyJun 10 2024, 9:50amHi Rob, carpool option added there if that helps.
Dan GeelonJun 10 2024, 10:02amFolks, Ayling Abyss is open for sale with a cap of 220.
Parking will be an issue so please try and make car pooling arrangements.
Dan GeelonJun 10 2024, 11:54amVolunteering - we have enough volunteers now but there are plenty more events coming up to get your volunteering duties in. Thanks again to everyone that has volunteered for the Ayling Abyss.
Tom SOMMERJun 10 2024, 12:34pmThanks @Rob and @Keith for your replies.
@Rob - I've sent you a WhatsApp, I hope I've got your number right.
@Keith - I think Rialto will be closer to me but I appreciate the offer, thanks for adding the carpool option.
Gerry McGuinnessJun 10 2024, 2:33pmDan,
All set to do marshal on Djouce. What time do you want me on Djocue and any other details i might need.
Gerry
Dan GeelonJun 10 2024, 3:38pmGerry, I circulated an email to all the volunteers with all the details, if you or any of the other volunteers have changed your email address and didn't receive it, please e mail me at dtgeelon@gmail.com and I will re-send.
Volunteeers should be at the car park for 6.00pm with the car parking team about 10 minutes earlier and the route marshall's at 6.10 for a briefing before heading out on the course. Dan.
Louise MurrayJun 11 2024, 9:14amHi there, I just see that this event has just sold out ! Have just managed to get a lift organised for it, and wondering is there any chance I can sign up still ? Or will there be a waitlist for if people pull out today / tomorrow?
Thanks a million ! Am just home from NZ and wanting to get my running shoes into the hills !
Dan GeelonJun 11 2024, 10:38amSorry Louise, we we have no waiting list or transfers but we have a race coming up on Saturday evening in Ticknock that is now open for registration and a lovely race in Rathdrum next Wednesday which will open for registration on Monday morning. Dan
Paul FlynnJun 11 2024, 12:19pmHi Dan,

I ran the route at the weekend and noticed that the stiles we used in previous years are now gone. Are you planning to have the gates open or will we be jumping over the fences?

Also, there are one or two trees fallen across the path, one in particular on the way up is tricky enough to get under.

Thanks,
Paul
Dan GeelonJun 11 2024, 12:39pmPaul, i went over the course at the weekend, we should be able to get over or under the tree's without any problem, if it was too easy, everyone would be doing it. Our marshals will open the gates.
Dan GeelonJun 11 2024, 5:03pmParking - parking will be very tight in the Long Hill Car Park, follow our volunteers instructions and make every effort to car pool / park remotely. There are still plenty of seats available on the car pooling section on the event page.
Dan GeelonJun 11 2024, 7:55pmReminder - Andy Keeling on behalf of Trail Criu will be accepting gear donations at the Djouce Ayling Abyss race. Any items of running gear that is usable is very welcome, leggings, tops, shorts, trainers etc ..especially if anyone has spares of any items on the mandatory gear lists. Andy KeelingJun 11 2024, 10:18pmThanks Dan. Yes, all spare gear will be gratefully received. Thamks in advance. See you all at the race!
Louise MurrayJun 12 2024, 11:02amHi Dan,

Thanks for the reply !
I’ll be sure to sign up on time and will make the race next Wednesday so.

Good luck to everyone tonight,
Louise
Aoibheann OBrienJun 12 2024, 10:18pmHi I left a lilac half zip in a car at the start and finish . I would be grateful if you could bring it to the next couple of Wednesday night leagues as I will be in attendance

Many thanks
Elaine CaseyJun 12 2024, 10:46pmThanks to the organisers and volunteers, that was certainly a challenge. I could barely lift my legs by the end and, fyi, that up bit at the end is pure evil! Special mention the the guy at the top of Djouce who had to stand around in the clouds waiting for us all to finish, have to say, his cairn was impressive!
David PowerJun 12 2024, 11:14pmCycle out, that's the warm up taken care of.
Complete the 3 queue check in, it was like Lidl in the woods, with queue hopping.
Reality check when lots of fast runners show up.
Downhill start is fast, what are Brian and Rob doing on my shoulder? Push on.
Up the hill. Hi Rory. Out onto open mountain. Jeez Zak's tiny body is already near Djouce. Miles ahead.
Everyone's asking about the French lad in the vapourflys. That's Mark, from Rathfarnham. More international appearances than you could even count.
Descending Liam catches me. The forest black slope was actually better than past memory from 5 years ago. Everyone stayed upright, no broken wrists ( I hope), just a bit of tree hugging and letting go.
Ice cream and treats was lovely, til the flies arrived to annoy us.
Cycle home. Missed the excitement in Rome, but sure they were probably wondering how everyone got on in Djouce.
Thanks to each volunteer who gave up their evening so we could enjoy that.
Denis Mc glynnJun 12 2024, 11:17pmHi.
Can you let me know how to upload pictures onto djouce race
Gavin DunneJun 13 2024, 7:00amFantastic race last night. The extra uphill at the end was torture but we wouldn't expect anything different!
Thanks to Dan and all the Volunteers for putting on such a great race. Drinks and Food at the end were delicious.
Andy KeelingJun 13 2024, 8:18amThanks to Dan, Jodie and team for last night's race. One of the best races in the calender. I was even glad of the climb finish. I was about to be picked off at the bottom of the Abyss by Michael and Warren who had better downhill legs. Only pipped them to the finish with thanks to a grueling last km. And if it was 200m longer I might've even caught Peter O'Farrell ;)

Big big thank you from Trail Críu for all the gear donations last night. One runner even donating their vouchers that they won in previous races. Extremely generous. Thank you. It is all very much appreciated. If anyone still has donations I'll be at as many of the coming Wednesday races as I can. The boot is always open to throw donations in. Thank you.
Rachel HarneyJun 13 2024, 8:59amThanks so much to all the organisers and volunteers for a fantastic race. It was such a fun one! Only fault I have is that the Ayling Abyss was too easy without a bit of rain beforehand. It would certainly be a different race if it was on this evening instead!
Joan RyanJun 13 2024, 9:21amI dont know how ive managed to get myself to work today after that race!

Thanks so much to the RD and all the volunteers on route getting us through. Especially the volunteer was brave enough to stay at the top of Djouce what a legend.
Zak HannaJun 13 2024, 9:59amThanks to the RD & volunteers who helped make last night a brilliant one, great course, weather and craic after!
Aideen BurkeJun 13 2024, 11:04amLast night I had my first race-ending spill (just when it was getting to the fun part!). I cannot thank Darran, John, Alan and Torben enough for so readily giving up their own races to stop and look after me and see me back down safely. Very grateful also to Clare for tending to me so well when I got down ( I have your towel btw!), and to carpool buddies Rob for driving my car home, Ailbhe for the yummy cookies and Tom for the warm clothes. Am now stitched up and resting, absolutely gutted to be out of action for the foreseeable but will
volunteer at all of the IMRA races that I had planned to run as a tiny gesture of thanks to the soundest running community in Ireland. Dan- a huge thank you for what was a superbly organised race, there was even an ice cream waiting for me when I got down! I should say that I took the easy way back down and skipped the Abyss so feel free to put me down as a DNF
Dan GeelonJun 13 2024, 11:12amA big thank you to all my volunteering team and those runners who jumped in to help out, the car parking team somehow managed to get everyone in and they told me that they still had two spare places, the registration team / laptop kept things running smoothly even though we were running two full registration systems for the first time, the marshalls managed to get everyone home with out losing anybody, the medical team was in full control of the walking wounded, our catering team managed to feed all the runners and Deputy RD kept and eye on everything while still being very sociable. Thanks again, Dan.
Lillian DeeganJun 13 2024, 11:15amMassive hat tip to RD Dan, Joe and their trusty volunteer crew for last night. Super job everyone- fair dues! I too loved our summit marshals sighting in the low cloud covering - great job Gerry ;)

Having young Zak, Paddy and Co. join us last night to whizz around the route was mint to see. Our regular top end formation moved about a tad. Superb chasing there lads. Vines says I should talk more to concentrate less, gonna try this next time :)

Lost & Found - In the car park, I picked up a set of door keys on a little red tag. If anyone lost or knows someone who lost these keys, let me know and I’ll get them back to you.

Thanks again Dan. Till next year…
Brian KitsonJun 13 2024, 11:58pmThanks Dan and the gang for putting on a great show. I put up a report along with Warren and Mikey’s.
Clare KeeleyJun 16 2024, 4:40pmHi Aoibheann, I have your iliac top and will be at Wobbly Bridge on Wednesday, I will leave it at the registration table for you. Aideen, hope you are recovering well! Clare
Aoibheann OBrienJun 16 2024, 11:06pmThanks so much Aideen
Aoibheann OBrienJun 16 2024, 11:07pmSorry, thanks Clare
