Lillian Deegan | May 8 2019, 12:56pm | Hi all, We have given this Djouce race route a new apt. name. In doing so we accidentally lost the hearty number of helpers who had been so super well organised getting their names in early for RD Joe - sorry for same. Fire away again there ppl. Your RD will follow up with you - Thanks for now. Lillian |
Laszlo Barkoczi | Jul 9 2019, 9:46am | Hi, just a quick question. I didnt get a timing chip yet this year. I have one from last year, can I use that if reset for this years number, or sfould I order a new one? |
Kevin O'Riordan | Jul 9 2019, 10:00am | Hey Laszio, Bring along your old chip. It can be reused. |
Laszlo Barkoczi | Jul 9 2019, 12:13pm | Thank you! |
Joseph Boyle | Jul 12 2019, 12:30pm | Hi all: I hope everyone's looking forward to the Ayling Abyss race next Wednesday. Just a few quick points in relation to the race. We're doing very well on the volunteer front, but could do with maybe 2 more just for cover, running would be fine. I'd just like to remind everyone to check via the website in relation to their expected volunteering commitments over the year and in particular to look at the upcoming races. Please read the instructions on the race page in relation to parking and car pooling as the car park is quite small. Due to the location of the start/finish and if the current warm weather continues, for your own sake please remember to bring bug spray. Reminder on junior participation: Juniors 10-16 can run unaccompanied Under 10 years old must be accompanied by a Parent or Guardian. Juniors will start 5 minutes after the main field. We're reviewing the junior route again this evening and I'll post an update tomorrow regarding the distance. Finally there are a few items in the lost/found from the Tibradden race, mainly umbrellas, contact me on Wednesday if you're missing one. |
Joseph Boyle | Jul 15 2019, 11:22am | Just a quick update to confirm that we've finalised a Junior route for Wednesday and it'll have a total distance of 3.25km approximately. A further reminder on junior participation: Juniors 10-16 can run unaccompanied Under 10 years old must be accompanied by a Parent or Guardian. Juniors will start 10 minutes after the main field. |
Joseph Boyle | Jul 15 2019, 11:39am | Neil Dowling, the email address for you on the system is coming back as undeliverable. Could you check your personal details on file. Regards, Joe. |
Neil Dowling | Jul 15 2019, 1:27pm | Hi Joe Sorry, I've had some problem with my email account but it should be sorted now. If you try again it should work. Thanks Neil |
Alan Kilbride | Jul 15 2019, 3:40pm | ------------------------------------------------------ Hi, Can I just check that I have the correct location for the car park please? https://www.google.com/maps/dir//53.1556822,-6.1867696/@53.1565541,-6.2137944,13.7z/data=!4m2!4m1!3e0 Thanks!! Alan. ------------------------------------------------------ |
John Condon | Jul 15 2019, 4:55pm | Hi Alan, that's it alright |
Joseph Boyle | Jul 15 2019, 5:30pm | I've had a few drop-outs from the volunteering list, if anyone's available to volunteer in a running or non-running role it'd be appreciated. |
Jenny Uí Shé | Jul 15 2019, 5:47pm | Hi I can volunteer in a running capacity If that any help. Let me know what time Thanks Jenny |
Jim Durham | Jul 15 2019, 9:07pm | I'm available if you still need volunteers |
Joseph Boyle | Jul 16 2019, 7:31am | Thanks to Jenny, Jim and Alan who came forward last night, I should have enough help now with the extra couple who registered, however if we've any no shows tomorrow night I'll get back to you. |
Paul Grant | Jul 16 2019, 6:21pm | Another reminder on the sign in process for the LL races: EVERYONE must sign-in on race day, regardless of whether you are registered online. EVERYONE must SCAN-IN with their chip, at registration. NO CHIP, NO RESULT. Everyone must have a timing chip. CHIPS should attached to your runners on your laces or with a cable tie. See Kevin's Chip timing reminders - https://www.imra.ie/forum/topic/id/5308 |
Cian Coghlan | Jul 17 2019, 10:12am | Hi this evening will be my first IMRA event.. newbie question . Where do I buy the race chip and Bib number ? Have I left it too late to get one? Thanks |
Andrew Hanney | Jul 17 2019, 10:44am | Hi Cian, welcome to IMRA. You have a 2019 race number, so if you've purchased a pre-reg entry to tonights race, or if you've bought a 50 Euro voucher book you collect it, or else buy a voucher off some other runner tonight you can run. First thing you should collect your race number. Then your timing chip which (included in your membership fee) Then you sign in on a paper sign sheet and you have your chip scanned. Then you can race. Enjoy! |
Cian Coghlan | Jul 17 2019, 10:48am | Thanks for the info panic over :) |
Andrew Hanney | Jul 17 2019, 11:36am | no worries, don't forget a rain proof jacket is mandatory and I 100% recommend bug spray. |
Nigel McCabe | Jul 17 2019, 11:42am | Another newb...route wise its easy to navigate I take it just looking at all the photo prompts here. |

Dave Docherty | Jul 17 2019, 11:48am | Nigel, All races in this league are fully marked. Just keep an eye out for barrier tape as you run. The IMRA moto "follow the tape, not the person in front, follow the tape". You'll be grand. And if you get lost someone should come find you. |

Nigel McCabe | Jul 17 2019, 11:49am | Grand job.. I might want to brush up on my computer skills..patience is a virtue :) |
Dave Docherty | Jul 17 2019, 11:51am | Yes...The wait... |
Joseph Boyle | Jul 17 2019, 11:51am | Hi all, Just some final points on this evening's race. 1. We've had to revise the Junior route after last nights route marking, it'll now be an out and back route and there'll be a marshal at the turning point. The route length will be 4KM. 2. At the finish line it'll be the usual layout up to the timing mat, however after the finish we're going to trial a new manual recording system with everyone's required to go to the volunteer after the line and give their number, in the order that they finish. Please assist with this and move away from the area when you've given your number. 3. Michael is volunteering at the finish list and be warned he has a bee in his bonnet about this rule. 4. Overall have fun and enjoy the Abyss. |
Joseph Boyle | Jul 17 2019, 11:56am | Sorry the bee in Michael's bonnet is about the mandatory jacket. |
Stuart Scott | Jul 17 2019, 12:01pm | There will be several midges in Michael's bonnet too I suspect :-) |
Anne-Marie Flaherty | Jul 17 2019, 10:49pm | Thanks Joseph and all of the volunteers for the race this evening. It kicked my ass but what a fantastic course! |
Caitlin Bent | Jul 18 2019, 12:03am | Thanks to Joe for a well run race tonight. And of course to all the volunteers and the merry band of Marshals. Congratulations to Igor for flawless markings. I dropped my hard earned race voucher in the car park at Plucks if anyone happened to pick it up I'd be happy to be reunited with it at next week's race. |

Conor O'Farrell | Jul 18 2019, 7:06am | Hi All Results are now up. Please send any queries to results@imra.ie. Thanks Con |
Derek Kellett | Jul 18 2019, 8:00am | Lads, that was so much fun, thank you :) I suspect we have added 60 minutes to the early starters times. (Works fine for me but if we do run a handicap race later in the year, some of the capable maybe handicapped in to starting that evening in 2020) |
Conor O'Farrell | Jul 18 2019, 9:26am | Hi All I see the issue with the early starters times. I'll get it sorted out this evening. Con |
Pádraig Doyle | Jul 18 2019, 9:58am | Yep... a great race. Fair play Joe and crew, an Conor and Paul for the quick results! Joe, you even swapped the voracious midges of yore with the big dopey flies of the future... merely annoying rather than the brutality of previous years. Nice work. Marshall 6... you know who you are... a creepier sight a the edge of a forest, I have never seen. All you were missing is the scythe and a John Carpenter soundtrack. Good craic and thanks. P. |
Conor Nolan | Jul 18 2019, 11:23am | Great, tough, course last night. The abyss lived up to its billing. Many thanks to RD Jody and crew. In particular thanks to the marshals, they're always very encouraging. |
Laura Flynn | Jul 18 2019, 1:31pm | Well done Joe on your race directing debut. Great to see so many juniors out last night again. |
John Bell | Jul 18 2019, 2:04pm | Thank you Joe and your team for putting on another really enjoyable race last night. |
Dave Docherty | Jul 18 2019, 2:26pm | Great race last night folks. Well done Jody and co. Some scary marshals out there to. I may have misplaced a white t-shirt with my race number still on it at the finish line. If it turns up let me know. Thanks again. See y'all next week hopefully. |
Andrew Hanney | Jul 18 2019, 2:43pm | Well done Jody on a super RD debut. You looked far too relaxed when I saw you, but thats the way its supposed to be. Well done also to your crew, everything went to plan, and fair play specially to your summit marhshal, it wasn't a great spot to be standing around and they were very cheery despite the wind and rain. |
Joseph Boyle | Jul 18 2019, 2:47pm | I’d just like to thank all the volunteers for their help in this year’s Ayling Abyss race. I don’t want to go through the full list of names or to pick anyone out individually, but between them all they made the night run so smoothly right from the start and slotted into their roles so quickly. It always amazes me that for a totally volunteer organisation, how professionally the races are run and at the same time in such a friendly and welcoming manner. Anyone who hasn’t volunteered yet, you really don’t know how much you are missing out on in relation to the ethos of the association, so please put your name down straight away to find out for yourself. I’d also like to thank all the runners who seemed to really enjoy the route, well at least 10 minutes after they finished anyway. One of the highlights is seeing the juniors enjoying it so much. A few people of note outside the team, some of them, without whom this race would not go ahead. 1.The local farmer who was so kind in providing his field as a carpark free of charge, all monies collected at the gate will be donated to a local charity designated by him. 2.The committee for all their support and assistance in getting permits from the relevant authorities. 3.Pluck’s in Kilmacanogue for providing car parking for carpooling and for the after-race nourishment, I hope it was nice. |
Joseph Boyle | Jul 18 2019, 2:52pm | Dave, I think I have your teeshirt in my car, I picked up a white one on the ground behind my car last night. I'll give it to Brendan if you want as I can't make Brockagh next week. |
Alan Kilbride | Jul 18 2019, 3:28pm | Thanks to all the volunteers for an amazing race yesterday, what a club!! |
Brian Kitson | Jul 19 2019, 12:57am | Still buzzing after that. Thanks so very much all. I put up a report. |
John Murray | Jul 19 2019, 7:32am | @Brian - Love reading these reports, another cracker once again! :) |
Conor O'Farrell | Jul 19 2019, 9:42am | Hi All All early start results should now be resolved. Thanks to Joe for an epic race, I only wish I could have given it my all until the finish. Thanks to Laura and David for escorting me back for a bit, I managed to hobble the rest of the way. I'll be back soon enough to attack this route. Con |
Nigel McCabe | Jul 19 2019, 9:45am | Thanks to all for a great race.. Who found the downhill part of route! :) I need to brush up on my map reading skills.... |
John McCann | Jul 19 2019, 11:25pm | Brilliantly organised race Jody, well done to you and all your volunteers. Special mention to Trish for braving the elements on top of Djouce and of course Alan for the devising the route. My favourite race of the year so far. |
Joseph Boyle | Jul 26 2019, 10:52am | Just to confirm that the proceedings collected for parking in the farmer's field, have been donated to the Powerscourt Ploughing Society at his request. |
