Looking for 2 entries if at all possible Many thanks! |

Owen Harney | Jan 9 2019, 3:32pm | Great, thanks Robbie. Haven't done one of these at night before, so just checking in case I need to buy anything. An email this weekend is plenty of time. Cheers. |

David Bosonnet | Jan 13 2019, 7:32pm | IMPORTANT INFORMATION MOONLIGHT CHALLENGE START: This starts at exactly 2:30am Sat morning at Ballyorgan Holiday Homes entrance. Participants getting off busses be aware people will be asleep in houses close by, so keep taking to a low level please. Also stay at side of roadside to allow marathon runners to pass through the middle. Same as the full, you will follow white reflective signs with red arrows. Follow a path unless arrow leads you off it. Take note at junctions to double check path. 3km in the middle of the night in the wrong direction will not be enjoyable. Follow arrows in front of you, and ignore an you see in certain places if you turned around to face opposite direction. ROUTE AWARENESS & KIT: Follow signs as above. There are certain point where you are running on the road, so it is VITAL that you are as reflective as possible. Have head torch switched on at front, and at rear have ideally a flashing small light or at least, high highly reflective area which should not be blocked by a gear bag or rain coat. We will try to have all the larger roads manned but if not we will have signs warning motorists and also have flashing red lights. Take note to be in a safe position in the road, cross road when safe if approaching tight side of bend (blind side). Mandatory Kit is: Rain jacket, Mobile phone, some sort of food, head-torch and spare batteries, high vis vest. NO EXCUSES. Any issues , you can call the emergency number on the reverse of your imra number on the night. This will divert to Race Directors. This is a winter challenge event and not a race. No prizes will be given. All participants will receive a event beanie. REFRESHMENTS: Carry enough water to get to finish for Moonlighters. At start at Ballyorgan, PLEASE KEEP NOISE TO A MINIMUM. When all have crossed the finish line, avail of a shower in Blackrock GAA Club, next to the school. Come back to school hall for a nice fry up and mug of hot tea and a chat to wind down. Please note: those staying in hostel will eat in the hostel !! Those NOT staying in hostel will eat in Scoil Pol. Well done ! See you all on the night ! |
Alice Clancy | Jan 20 2019, 5:31pm | A huge thank you to Robbie and all the brilliant volunteers....this was such a lovely night! The route was very well marked and had lots of variety in it. Loads of great chats had along the route too! I hope to be back next year. |
Philip Purcell | Nov 12 2019, 10:30am | Is there an option of getting a GPX file of the route? |

David Bosonnet | Nov 12 2019, 5:08pm | GPX file for the Ballyhoura Moonlight Marathon Challenge available at: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ncq-T-Tn6RzJQxlhQk6btu1-grquj-He/view?usp=sharing |
David Bosonnet | Nov 12 2019, 5:11pm | Apologies - ignore the last link - that only gives a raw data file. The route is mapped on the link below - half way down the page there is an option to download the GPX file of the main route. https://www.plotaroute.com/route/968784 |

Tom Blackburn | Nov 13 2019, 2:08pm | Hi lads, l would advise anyone running this event to wear shoes that are suitable for mucky ground and be advised if you only wear ordinary runners you will struggle on certain parts of this route. Also wear a head tourch that is fully charged or has fresh batteries in it. Make sure you have used the light before you run this event as if you get isolated with a bad light it could turn out to be a long night. |
Robbie Williams | Nov 22 2019, 9:47pm | Lads, due to bus transfer needed to bring runners to race starts, it will NOT be possible to register for the FULL marathon and then drop down. This would bring on a considerable logistical nightmare. Thank you |
Ronan Johns | Dec 3 2019, 5:01pm | Is there any hope of extra places being added for the half? :-( |
Philip Purcell | Dec 5 2019, 10:05pm | Is the route in private land or can it be recce’s ? |
Robbie Williams | Dec 6 2019, 12:31pm | 2 places are private but it has access allowed |
John Kissane | Dec 10 2019, 11:22am | Anywhere to grab a gpx file for the half marathon route (just in case!). Thanks. |
Conor O'Farrell | Dec 10 2019, 11:45am | Hi John You can get the GPX from the Plot-a-Route on the event page, by clicking on the link below it. Once that site opens, you can find a GPX link on the page. Here is the link for your convenience https://www.plotaroute.com/route/740483?units=km Con |
John Kissane | Dec 26 2019, 10:12am | Thanks very much Con, much appreciated! |
