Laura FlynnJul 25 2018, 9:05pmWe’re still looking for a Race Director for this race if anyone would like to give it a go.
Joe LalorJul 25 2018, 11:21pmHi Laura, just got permission from committee to organise Kippure as fundraiser for Mountain Meitheal again this year. I will RD this, will post details tomorrow
Joe LalorJul 26 2018, 9:37amGood morning folks, once again the IMRA committee has generously agreed to donate the takings of the end of league handicap race on Kippure to Mountain Meitheal, the group that builds and repairs the foot paths we all love to run on. As in previous years the voucher scheme for this race will be suspended and the only way to enter will be online for a fee of €10. The purpose of this race is to find the handicap winner of the summer league. Start times based on your finish position in the league will be published a few days before the race (start times at 7 for the slowest and at 8 for the elite runners).
To get a handicap starts time you will need to have completed 7 races in the series but everyone else is very welcome to take part starting at 8. I hope as many as possible of you will support this worthy cause and if you cannot make it on the night and might consider buying an entry anyway as a contribution.
Joe LalorJul 27 2018, 10:00amEntry to Kippure Race has been added to Purchase IMRA Products for those who want to run in End of Season Handicap and those wishing to donate to Mountain Meitheal fund. Thanks.
Caitlin BentJul 27 2018, 7:28pmHi Joe, just to say that that the date on the Purchase page for Kippure is down as 7th August instead of 8th.
Joe LalorJul 30 2018, 2:25pmThanks to everyone who has volunteered. I think I am fixed except for a laptop operator, anyone for this? Robert are you available to do summit marshall when marking or will I assign one of the other volunteers? Keep signing up either as racer or supporter, it is race after next.
Graham K. BusheJul 30 2018, 2:47pmHi Joe, I can do Summit Marshall if you like, and get some photos (if it isn't like last year...)
Graham
Joe LalorJul 30 2018, 5:27pmGreat Graham, thanks
Brenda MalleyAug 3 2018, 1:22pmHi Joe, I only did 5 league races, with average 275% finishing time. Will I be able to start with slow runners at 7.00 please
Robert CarneyAug 3 2018, 2:30pmHi Joe,
Been away the last week so am only checking this now.
Seen as Graham bet me to summit marshal I'll do whatever is needed.
Regards, Rob
Joe LalorAug 4 2018, 12:19am@ Brenda, glad to see you back running on the hills. No trees whatsoever on this route. Yes you can do an early start at 7.15 as long as you promise you dont come home in the first three.
@ Rob & other volunteers, I will assign and post jobs later in week, thanks to all you have volunteered. Still looking for laptop operator.
@ Everyone else, sign up in numbers
Garrett KellyAug 4 2018, 9:23amHi joe.. I only joined up two weeks ago and have run in just the one race (ballinastoe). I would like to run in the kippure race and wanted to know if that is ok?

Regards, Garrett
Joe LalorAug 4 2018, 12:02pmHi Garrett, you are very welcome. It is a fund raiser and the more runners the better. However it is also a race to find the hadicapped winner of the summer league (from those who have run 7 races) so I will have to give you a start time that insures you are not amoung the first three finishers. So depending on your form I will give you a start between 7.30 and 8. I have yet to draw up the start list which will be published here later.
Caitlin BentAug 6 2018, 2:51pmHi, At what time does short course start, Joe?
Joe LalorAug 7 2018, 9:06am126 runners completed the summer league. See below for start time for tomorrows hanicap race. I had a good look at previous years results and decided that an hour spread on start time was too great and over penalised the later runners so this year I am trying a 30 minute spread. The start times are mainly worked out on your finish position in the league with a minor nod to percentage of finish times so bear in mind that the more races that you did improved you finish position as you lost your worst finishes and consequently disimproved your hadicap. Contrary to what it says elsewhere non league finishers will start from 7.15 to 7.30 depending on the percentage of winning times (please know what this figure is, or you will be stated at 7.30). Short race to end of bog road and back starts at 7.15. Look out later today for important post re parking arrangments.

Garrett KellyAug 7 2018, 10:36amHi joe ... just to confirm I've only run one race so my starting time will be 7.30? Also if at all possible could you give directions as I'm completely new and not exactly sure where the starting point is.

Regards, Garrett
Joe LalorAug 7 2018, 11:13am@ Garret, yes non league runners start betweem 7.15 and 7.30 depending on form. The purpose of this is to keep them out of the winners enclosure in a effort to find a league hanicap winner of the league.

Head out the Kilakee Road (also known as the Military Road), it passes the Hell Fire on the way. At a right hand sweep in the road you pass a carpark use for viewing the city. Continue on for roughly 3 km (passes 2 minor roads to right, from Tallaght) until you reach closed track up Kippure, The Old Bog Road. Race starts here.
Aisling CorkeryAug 7 2018, 1:16pmHi, just wondering if anyone leaving from Bray has room in their car for me for tomorrow's race. I'm still carless at the moment :o(
Thanks, Aisling
Joe LalorAug 7 2018, 2:21pmParking arrangements for tomorrows race:
The only parking is along the side of this narrow road. Parking will be on the left hand side only (as you face away from the city). Passing places will be left every 10 cars or so, as this remote road can be surprising busy as the evening commute winds down. If you arrive late and see a lovely parking space near the start with a cone in it, no it has not been specially reserved for you.An idea would be to meet up at Buglers in Rathfarnham (the afters pub) and travel on in full cars.
Joe LalorAug 7 2018, 3:14pmLast chance to enter this race or support a worth cause. 68 people entered already, thanks to all.
Caitlin BentAug 7 2018, 6:59pmJoe, The system isn't allowing me purchase a 2nd token for Kippure for Liam O'Callaghan, for short coarse. Can u take cash tomorrow? Thanks for all your hard work working out the handicaps!
Joe LalorAug 7 2018, 7:34pmYes, Caitin all contributions gratfully recieved
Phil behanAug 7 2018, 10:07pmSorry missed the registration. Is it ok to pay on the night ? Apologies, this bank holiday threw my sense of days out !!!
Joe LalorAug 8 2018, 8:46amYes, Phil no problem as it is a fundraiser, does not apply to normal IMRA races.
Joe LalorAug 8 2018, 9:41amThanks to everyone who has volunteered for this event. I hope to be on site at 6. Summit marshall and course marker needs to be setting off by 6.30. Marking needed only from end of Old Bog Road, which is turnaround for short course.

Registration is pretty straight forward with only sign on and issueing of odd new number needed. Parking and keeping a watch on cars (unfortunately) as race is in progress will require a few volunteers. Patsy and myself will man the shop until 6.30. Could the rest of you be in place by then. First aid & laptop not needed until 7.
Graham K. BusheAug 8 2018, 11:12amOK Joe, thanks. See you later. graham
Aisling CorkeryAug 8 2018, 1:11pmHi!1 Still looking for a lift from Bray.
I'm on the Herbert Rd close to the N11, so can make my way out the N11/Enniskerry Junction if anyone is passing there. Or I could run up to Enniskerry if that suits someone's route better.
Dan GeelonAug 8 2018, 2:38pmAisling, if you can get to Sandyford Ind Est for 5.30, Finnigans bus goes there from Bray, i can bring you to the race and back to Bray after.
Aisling CorkeryAug 8 2018, 4:55pmHi Dan,
Will only be back in Bray by 5:30, so won’t make it to Sandyford I’m afraid. Thanks for the offer though!! ....should have brought my running gear to work!!
Mikey FryAug 8 2018, 5:35pmAisling ring me 0872464549 heading from Wicklow but soon if you still need lift
Aisling CorkeryAug 8 2018, 9:29pmAh thanks Mikey, missed your message, was home and chasing after kids, so didn’t get a chance to check the forum again. Hope you had a good race :o)
Alex HunterAug 8 2018, 10:11pmHi, was just wondering if Net times get posted as mine would of been inside the junior record?
Joe LalorAug 8 2018, 10:46pmA big thank you to all who supported this event either as runners or purchased an entry, we collected around €900 for Mountain Meitheal.

I much appreciated all the help I got from the volunteers, particularly those who spend their evening minding cars, however this is unfortunately necessary at this venue.

All finishing times and running times will in time be published. Bear in mind to be a prize winner on the night of the league handicap you had to have completed 7 races.

Conor O'FarrellAug 9 2018, 12:33pmLong, boring report up. Thanks again to everyone involved, and congrats to all the winners.

On another note, for those who use it, best Strava flyby ever!
John J BarryAug 9 2018, 1:35pmThanks to Joe and all the volunteers for a great evening. I greatly appreciated the big cheer as I arrived back in last position. Looking at the closeness of the results the handicapping was great and it must have been a 'mare' for the volunteers to keep on top of the finishing positions.
Niall McGuinnessAug 9 2018, 7:02pmUploaded a few more photos from Kippure. Clearly a night for shots through the heather (as Aidan demonstrated much better than me). Sorry for the sideways photos. And the upside-down one! I'm guessing I can't rotate after upload... Anyone know how to solve this?
Phil behanAug 11 2018, 6:04pmThank you to Joe and all volunteers for a great race. Great report Conor, if it’s any consolation it’s was bloody hard work keeping close to you on those hills !! It’s kind of surreal getting an IMRA win in my first season. My strategy was to try sneak one in 35 years time at M70 !! Again thanks all and see you soon.
