Mo Foley | May 1 2008, 8:24pm | On Sunday 11th May the Munster Mountain-Running Championship continues in Doon, County Limerick. The championship kicked off last month with a wonderful evening event on Claragh Mountain in County Cork. The upcoming event starts at 1pm, with athletes covering ten kilometres over moderate terrain. Local man, Paddy Lonergan is the race organiser and can be contacted on 061 380529. This Championship is a series of six Sunday races which are organised by the Munster Region of the Irish Mountain Running Association. Currently, two Kerry men ? Eoghan McKenna and Sean Twomey ? are leading the championship, with Tom Blackburn of Bilboa AC (County Limerick) in fourth position at this early stage. The top three women represent the counties of Cork, Clare and Limerick in that order with Gayle Finn, Loretto Duggan and Maureen Foley resuming where they left off last year. There are junior women and men?s categories as well as the different senior age categories going up to over-70 ? so all are welcome! To complete the championship, at least four races must be competed in, or the four highest scores are counted. |
