Brendan Lawlor | May 19 2014, 7:54am | NEW ROUTE - advance notice This race will be using a new route which we are currently in the process of agreeing with the NPWS. We will update you all in due course |
Eoin Keith | May 22 2014, 11:18am | Posting on behalf of Brendan Lawlor: Thanks to everyone who volunteered last night - I've added you in. Just need 2/3 more. Still awaiting white smoke from NPWS re Route so keep an eye |
Eva Fairmaner | May 22 2014, 12:22pm | I emailed Brendan to ask that he add me as a running volunteer as I can not get my password reset as once again I forgot it! Thanks |
Brendan Lawlor | May 26 2014, 11:47am | Hi I have enough volunteers now - still plenty of races looking for helpers later in the season Route update coming soon - I promise! |
Cliona Flynn Gray | May 26 2014, 8:26pm | Hi Brendan, Is there any early start on Wednesday?? Thanks, Cliona |
Declan Murphy | May 27 2014, 10:02am | Hi, I'm after losing my race voucher. Can I get a replacement tomorrow night? It was voucher number 146. Thanks, Declan |
Rory Hearne | May 27 2014, 10:22am | Any one leaving from Dublin city tomorrow? I need a lift thank you. I am in Fairview but can get bus to wherever suits. Rory |
Brendan Lawlor | May 27 2014, 11:06am | Hi We've just received permission from the National Parks and Wildlife Service for the Glasnamullan race The route approved goes up to Djouce summit as before (up through the Glasnamullan forest, along track to Wicklow Way, right at WW and then left up main face of Djouce) We then descent off the south shoulder of Djouce down to the WW again NEW BIT NEXT PLEASE NOTE !! The route now continues along the Wicklow Way boardwalk going South West (towards Ballinastoe)until the end of this board walk. There is then a sharp turn left (going East) with a descent along the forest edge. Continue along this track until the forest corner and then head back north until you come to the entrance to the original Glasnamullan forest and back the way you came. A route map is posted on the IMRA Facebook page, we may get the site map updated here before tomorrow also hopefully. The route will be marked and marshalled but please watch out at critical junctions - if you go wrong you could end up in Crone Wood, Ballinastoe, Lough Tay or Roundwood !! There will be an early start at 7pm for anyone with an average start time of 150% or more. The Race Director reserves the right to add a time penalty to runners using the early start who don't need it There will be a junior course - details to follow. Please note the carpooling and car parking instructions There is a limit of 200 for this race so please come early Could all volunteers please be at race registration at 6pm and no later than 6.30pm. Race duties will be allocated as you arrive |
Brendan Lawlor | May 27 2014, 11:10am | Declan I'll issue you a new race voucher, less races run already this year |
Tim Chapman | May 27 2014, 11:18am | Sorry all, Due to last minute work commitments I'll have to understand volunteer from this. Apologies Tim |
Brendan Lawlor | May 27 2014, 12:16pm | I'll take one or two more non running volunteers if available - route marshalling on the course |
John Greene | May 27 2014, 12:25pm | hi Brendan, i can do route marshal and take a few photos. i'll be at the coachhouse early enough. cheers John |
Alexey Rashevskiy | May 27 2014, 12:29pm | Is it mandatory to do early start if my usual time is 160-170% of 1st place? |
Rachel Cinnsealach | May 27 2014, 12:39pm | Hi Brendan, I'm happy to be a non running volunteer. rach |
Brendan Lawlor | May 27 2014, 12:42pm | Thanks John and Rachel I'll add you on now Alexey, yes it would be advisable for you to do the early start, this will be a tough long race |
Alexey Rashevskiy | May 27 2014, 2:24pm | Brendan, is it tougher than Scarr new course? It had difficulty level 7 vs 6 in this race... Any chance that altitude profile will be available before race? :) I'm afraid I'm not going to be there before 7, can I still join the main crowd? In previous races I had few tens of people behind me.. |
Brendan Lawlor | May 27 2014, 2:31pm | Course is tougher because its a good bit longer than in previous years, but the climb is still the same. If you can't get there for 7 you'll miss the early start so just head out with main field and run as fast as you can... |
Alice Clancy | May 27 2014, 2:34pm | Hi, anyone volunteering who has space in their car, leaving from Dublin? I'm a volunteer but carpooling to get there, and won't be there till about 6.30 I think. Thanks, Alice |
Alexey Rashevskiy | May 27 2014, 2:41pm | So it isn't 410m climb with 8.4km total distance? Are the new figures known already? Thanks! |
Brendan Lawlor | May 27 2014, 2:44pm | The climb is about right The distance will be longer 10-11 km I'd guess Theres a route map on the IMRA Facebook page |
Alexey Rashevskiy | May 27 2014, 2:53pm | Thanks. I've seen new map. It is difficult to measure length of the course from this picture. Climb looks a bit higher - 440m probably (race starts below 300m and top point is 725m). If it won't be as steep as Scarr - is should be OKish ;) |
Brendan Doherty | May 27 2014, 3:52pm | Why do IMRA members with a well-functioning web site (including map functionality) have to go elsewhere (eg Facebook) to get race images? |
Brendan Lawlor | May 27 2014, 4:02pm | Brendan Updating a map on the IMRA site needs someone from the IMRA web team to do it (I'm not sure who) I was able to upload the map on Facebook myself as a JPeg This route/map was only agreed with the NPWS this morning. The IMRA website map may or may not get amended before the race tomorrow - thats above my pay grade I'm afraid! |
Alan Kilbride | May 27 2014, 5:18pm | Hey guys, Looking forward to the race tomorrow. I'll have a full car of people driving down and was wondering where the field to park in is? A google maps link would be super helpful!! Thanks again! Alan. |
Brendan Lawlor | May 27 2014, 5:26pm | Car park is at Grid Ref O 203 090 |
Jean O'Neill | May 27 2014, 6:46pm | Rory I am coming from Swords so should be able to pick you up. I can't find anyone else travelling from'de nordside'! My mobile is oh 86 oh55 95oh9. |
Stephen Brennan | May 27 2014, 7:17pm | Brendan, as you know I've had to drop out as Deputy Race Director. Best of luck with the race tomorrow. Another fast descent beckons! Angela Flynn sent me a txt offering to be a running volunteer - she can't access the site. See you next week. Stephen |
Carla Buckley | May 27 2014, 10:32pm | Hi guys Im planning on doing my first imra race tomorrow. Just wondering can I pay for the race when I arrive? |
John J Barry | May 27 2014, 11:28pm | Carla, Yes u can pay at the event. €10 reg. and €7 race fee. If you can download reg. form and complete prior to approaching registration tomorrow would be handy. Enjoy your self tomorrow. Good 'craic' on those hills. |
Declan Murphy | May 28 2014, 9:45am | Brendan - I paid last week so it's minus all races so far apart that one. Thanks |
Carla Buckley | May 28 2014, 10:34am | Great thanks! Looking forward to it! |
Jack 0'Connor | May 28 2014, 10:46am | Is it going to rain tonight ? Should I wear trail or road shoes ? |
Brendan Lawlor | May 28 2014, 10:50am | Mist and fog will clear early this morning and many places will be dry with good sunny spells. Scattered heavy showers will develop this afternoon, mainly in parts of the west and southwest with the risk of isolated thunderstorms. Cloud will thicken in eastern areas later with perhaps a little patchy rain developing in places this evening. Trail shoes with plenty of grip recommended or you'll be coming down off Djouce faster than you want ! |
Thomas O'Sullivan | May 28 2014, 10:55am | Can someone put up a link to this facebook page, as I can't find it. |

Alan Kil | May 28 2014, 11:01am | Hey Brendan, Thanks for the coordinates (Grid Ref O 203 090). Unfortunately I have no idea how to use this to find the car park? I did a good search to try and translate this into something meaningful but no joy. For the less cartology savay people, do you have a google maps link or GPS coordinates please as currently I have no idea where to go this evening. Thanks again! Al. |

Stuart Scott | May 28 2014, 11:28am | Brendan, can I have directions using polar co-ordinates please? :-) |
Brendan Lawlor | May 28 2014, 11:35am | The Customer Services desk will be closing in 30 minutes. One final reminder - NO HEADPHONES ! People wearing headphones cannot hear instructions from marshals or other competitors and are a hazard in the mountains. If you want to wear headphones stick to the roads please. |
Niall Corrigan | May 28 2014, 12:30pm | Hi, Any other volunteers want to meet up in Roundwood about 6ish and carpool from there? Niall |
Eva Fairmaner | May 28 2014, 12:49pm | Great idea Niall. I will be in the Car Park at Roundwood at 6pm ready to carpool. |
Niall Corrigan | May 28 2014, 12:56pm | Excellent See you then. |
David Butler | May 28 2014, 1:36pm | Midges have been savage for the last couple of nights in the hills so some bug repellent for the start would probably be advisable to avoid an itchy night! |
John J Barry | May 28 2014, 3:14pm | Volunteer carpool from Dublin side? I'll be heading from Blackrock at 5:30 to be in Kilmacanoge about 5:50. Anybody fancy car pooling from there? |
Siobhain Duggan | May 28 2014, 4:00pm | Brendan, im really sorry but im not going to make it in time to volunteer (i have unvolunteered on the website), if you are stuck let me know (ill keep an eye on forum) and i can try to get up but will be a bit later, thanks and sorry for short notice - hope its a great race!! Siobhain |
John McCann | May 28 2014, 5:00pm | John Barry, I should be in Kilmac around that time. My number is 087 293 2353 if you want to carpool from McCormack's |
Pól Ó Murchú | May 28 2014, 10:22pm | *Provissional results up now* A few new runners missing. Will add over the next day or two...Blame Vivian. He stole the laptop... |
Cliona Flynn Gray | May 28 2014, 10:43pm | Hi, race no 1867 think you forgot to add in my early start. Great race tonight, Thanks, Cliona Flynn Gray |
Gerry Brady | May 28 2014, 10:47pm | Congratulations to Killian Mooney on winning tonight. Is that the first time a junior man has won a Leinster League race or did Paul Nolan take that distinction? Great to see the young orienteers up front as well. |
James H Cahill | May 28 2014, 10:49pm | Thank you for a very enjoyable, well organised and run race this evening Brendan and all your helpers. |
Ryle b Butcher | May 28 2014, 10:56pm | Great race tonight. Thanks for brilliant organisation. I think several early starters have got mixed into main field results again. |
Paul O'Connor | May 28 2014, 11:01pm | Great race, the new route was excellent and certainly makes it into a very different race from the up/down of previous years. I am missing from the results (Paul O' Connor with number 2044). I came in between number 709, John Stewart and number 558, Rosalind Hussey. John Stewart flew past me about 200 metres from the end! The same thing happened last week with the Scarr results but Pol O'Murchu sorted it out earlier this week. I was a new registration (online) for last week. Jason Halpin (2049) has the same issue in that he isn't listed in the results. |
John Collins | May 28 2014, 11:05pm | Great route. Bit of everything in those 10km. I'm also missing from results (1594). Finished just after John Condon |
Rory Hearne | May 28 2014, 11:11pm | Hi I was given the wrong number on the race today as I didn't remember my number - they gave me Ray Hearnes 1734. So can you change the results from Ray Hearne to Rory Hearne number 713. Thanks! |
Alexey Rashevskiy | May 28 2014, 11:13pm | Can't find my friend Oleksii Nasiedkin (727). He signed up for IMRA today on the race. Should be around 66mins. Cheers! |
Paul Keville | May 29 2014, 12:25am | I think my results might have gotten mixed up. I don't appear on the results. My time according to My watch was 53:50. I think that the wrong number was called out to the laptop operator. Theres a competitor with the number 367 who is down as 53:54. Im guessing that should of been me. Thanks again for a great race. |
John Greene | May 29 2014, 7:29am | I tried uploading photos, but keeping getting an error message (I'm obeying all the conditions). I missed half the field as a hiker was chatting to me. I've uploaded them on the imra f&%$buck page |
Damien McParland | May 29 2014, 8:25am | Thanks to Brendan and all the volunteers for a great race last night. I am one of the missing people on the results. My number is 1595 and I came in (just!) in front of Ronan King. Thanks! |
John J Barry | May 29 2014, 8:26am | If you see an error in your results. Do not post here it will not be seen: So if your result is missing or wrong email Pol at: pol.omurchu(at)imra.ie and he will correct. Please put GLASNAMULLEN RESULTS as subject |
Brendan Lawlor | May 29 2014, 10:21am | A big thank you to all helpers and volunteers last night Peter and Brian who did a great job marking the route - no one got lost !! John on the lap top Mike on First aid Our 5 route marshals All the sign in and finish helpers Lucy and Peter Mulloy for the use of their parking field (I'll update later with the amount collected for The Wicklow Hospice) Apologies to anyone who missed the 200 race limit but that is likely to be the way into the future with any events in or near the National Park - I appreciate the fact that you all took your disappointment well and didn't give any of us grief. Finally thank you to the committee for the sambos back at the pub, a nice treat for all the prizegiving attendees Lots more races looking for volunteers, helpers, race directors so do your bit and stick your name down Have fun in Kerry and see you all in Carrig next Wednesday ps Alan, give me a shout next Wednesday with your new sheet 56 and I'll show you how the grid references work ;) |
John Condon | May 29 2014, 10:26am | Thanks to Brendan and crew for a great race last night. The new route had a bit of everything, really enjoyable. |
Warren Swords | May 29 2014, 10:35am | Great race last night. I thought the course was fantastic. Had a bit of everything. Well done to all and thanks to volunteers. |
Brendan Lawlor | May 29 2014, 11:08am | Euro 377.40 collected at the car park last night on behalf of The Wicklow Hospice - thank you all |
Joe Fitzpatrick | May 29 2014, 1:25pm | Great run last night. Enjoyed the new route. Look like my finish time doesnt take early start into account. #1547 should be just under 1:29:00 |
Alan Kilbride | May 29 2014, 1:27pm | Hi, Just a quick note to say thanks to all for the great run yesterday. Really enjoyed it!! I have purchased this mysterious "sheet 56" and will bring it along next week ;o) Thanks again! Alan. Ps: This is what I hope the map is (or at least it's the one I ordered anyway!) http://shop.osi.ie/Shop/Products/StockedItemsWH03/PID-51056(StockedItems).aspx Go team! |
Brendan Lawlor | May 29 2014, 1:43pm | Thats the boy for you Alan ! Best tenner you'll ever spend... |
Alan Ayling | May 29 2014, 4:26pm | 56 is good in lots of ways - especially in that it fits most of Wicklow on one sheet. But for up-to-date-ness, accuracy of paths, trails, forestry, cool placenames and a really rather pretty colour scheme, the East-West maps are better. http://www.eastwestmapping.ie/wicklow-east is one of the four that cover the Wicklow Mountains area. The 1:30000 scale isn't the most intuitive thing, but once you get to grips with it (each square is a 1 km x 1 km!) you'll be laughing, it's easier to use for mountain nav than OSI's 1:50000. Only downside is you have to buy all four to have all of Wicklow. |
Rachel Cinnsealach | May 29 2014, 4:49pm | And if it's contour detail you're looking for then Harvey's is the way to go! |
Peter O'Farrell | May 29 2014, 5:51pm | hmmm, are ye all seriously suggesting my ould sheet 16 isn't up to the task?? |
Alan Ayling | May 29 2014, 11:01pm | There should be a Like button for that comment Peter... brilliant! The best description I've heard of the old half inch series was by Yorkshire comedian Mike Harding in a book he wrote about hillwalking in Ireland - "pretty, but pretty useless!" |
Paul O'Connor | Jun 8 2014, 9:10am | Hi Folks, Sorry to drag up an old race thread but any chance that I can be included in the results please as I am missing (Paul O' Connor with number 2044). I came in between number 709, John Stewart and number 558, Rosalind Hussey. Jason Halpin (2049) has the same issue in that he isn't listed in the results. Just want to make sure we are included should we make the 7 race quota for the league! |
