Route Description:
The race starts in Castletownbere town centre, where you will follow the Beara Way for approx 2.5km on tar road to the trail head at Derrintaggert. Turn right continuing on the marked way on fire road for another 2km until you hit mountain terrain. From the stile, you will be coming off the marked way and turning right, following the IMRA markers to the summit of Mish Kish mountain. A nice "runnable" climb with magnificent views of Beara, Bantry Bay and Kenmare Bay. From the summit, you will descend on the northern side, following the IMRA Markers, back onto the Beara Way to the Urhan Valley. From here, you will be following the marked Beara Way until you reach the hill road to Knockoura Mountain. There is a nice mix of terrain on this section, open mountain, fire road and a very short (circa 1km) tar road section. Once you reach the tar road at the end of this section, you will be following the IMRA markers and turning right onto the tar road (leaving the Beara Way) to the summit of Knockoura Mountain - approx 2km of uphill tar road until you reach another short section of fire road before you are back on open mountain. From the top of Knockourra, you will descend, following the IMRA markers back onto the Beara Way towards Urhan. From here, you will follow the Beara Way marked route back to Casletownbere town centre. This is a fantastic route with a nice mix of terrain and wonderful sea views from start to finish with very little tar road.

Volunteers (Non-Running)

You need to have done 2 non-running volunteer roles in a calendar year to qualify for end of year prize

Volunteers (Running)

Check with race director if they have a need for people volunteering and running. Race directors need a minimum number of people available throughout the race to make the race work so non-running volunteers are preferable. While it can be helpful, volunteering in a volunteer and race capacity does not count towards qualifying for end of year prize
