- Route Description:
- REG will be at kilavullen GAA from 9:30 until 10:15. Bus leaves promptly ast 10:15.
The Nagles Half Marathon:- A point to point race from Ballyhooly to Killavullen across the Nagles Hills.
There will be one unmanned water point at the 13km mark as you cross the tarred road.
Start at the entrance to Castleblagh woods just south of Ballyhooly Bridge (you will be bussed from Killavullen to the start). Follow the Blackwater way signs for the first 2kms along gentle forest roads. The Blackwater way leads us through a farm yard and a small section of single track in a wood. After this we leave the Blackwater way and turn left. We continue through woodland with the track gradually getting narrower. Next we have a 600m small section of natural woodland that the organisers have created a tight path through. From this we emerge into the main forest. Thereafter, you will be alternate between sections of technical single track and fast fire road that will allow you to open up for short moments. You will ascent to Knocknaskagh and also take in sections first introduced last year - "Mushroom Row", "Muddy Hill" and even Gary's own "Leaky Bladder". At 13km you will cross the tarred road that bisects the nagles and start the final climb up to the masts on Corran Hill. Make sure you touch the metal fence at the masts. After the mast the route is different to 2017. We take you down a technical trail, then onto a fire road for a fast 2km decent, before finally another forest path that dumps you out at the forest entrance just south of Killavullen. The end is 1km from Killavullen - so you can either cool down by jogging into town on your own, or wait for the regular car shuttles by one of the organisers.
History:- This is a route created by Donal Burke, the original race was run several times in the 1980s. It used finish at the Castle inn in Ballyhooley but unfortunately this is no more so we've reversed the route to finish near Killavullen.
- Getting There:
Parking and registration will be available at Killavullen GAA this year (and NOT the large Forest Car Park at Glenagaar like in 2017)
From Cork via M8:- Go to Fermoy and take the N72 in a westerly direction passed Ballyhooly, Castletownroche and onto the junction just before the petrol station. Follow signs left to Killavullen. From Cork via N20: after Rathduff take the first right signposted Bottlehill. take the 2nd road on the left signposted killavullen and continue for 13km until you get to the town.

This race is open to all IMRA members and cost TBD. There will online pre-registration available closer to the event
Under IMRA rules for competitor's safety, it is mandatory to bring and carry a jacket that is shower and wind proof for the entire race. Any competitor seen not carrying or wearing their jacket at any stage in the race will be disqualified. There are no exceptions to this rule!
IMRA MEMBERSHIP PROCEDURE FOR 2019!
All competitors must be IMRA members. IMRA membership costs €10 for a calendar year. It is unrelated to membership of other athletic clubs. IMRA membership cannot be purchased at the race, you must follow these steps beforehand:
- Login to your "myimra" account on www.imra.ie. If you don't have an account, create one using the REGISTER FOR MYIMRA link, and follow the instructions carefully.
- Go to the PURCHASE IMRA PRODUCTS page and purchase 2019 membership using a credit/debit card.
- Bring the membership confirmation email containing your race number for the year with you to your first race
- Get a bib number at your first race, and hold on to it, as it's valid for the full year.
Note: If you are not a 2019 IMRA member or don't know your race number, it will not be possible to enter the race
- Prizegiving Location:
- Prizegiving and tea, coffee and sambos in the Haven Bar in Killavullen. Showers available at the GAA where you will register beforehand. Registration is open from 9:30 to 10:15
Volunteers (Non-Running)
You need to have done 2 non-running volunteer roles in a calendar year to qualify for end of year prize
Volunteers (Running)
Check with race director if they have a need for people volunteering and running. Race directors need a minimum number of people available throughout the race to make the race work so non-running volunteers are preferable. While it can be helpful, volunteering in a volunteer and race capacity does not count towards qualifying for end of year prize
