This classic fell style route encompasses the best of what the Galtees has to offer. Runners will leave Kings yard and follow a stunning woodland trail north and join the famous black road onto the open mountain where they will then hit three of the mountains highest points (Galtee Beg 799m, Galtee Mór 917m and Lyracappal 878m) on the route before then descending back down into the valleys on the south side to traverse some truly beautiful trails before finishing back in Kings Yard. While we will endeavor to have the route fully marked this is an open mountain race and therefore some navigation skills may be required. The weather on the Galtees in particular can change quite suddenly and dramatically so we encourage everyone competing to embrace the fact that if heavy cloud/fog moves in visibility may be compromised and route markings will not be as obvious. We would also like to remind everyone that if you do come across somebody hurt or in distress please stop and help, we all have a duty of care to one another, after all its only running.

Getting There:
King's Yard https://goo.gl/maps/UND5PFboFmr If travelling from Mitchelstown/Cork direction pass through the village of Kilbehenny and continue toward Cahir. 1km outside Kilbehenny there is a yellow house on the left side of road, take the left turn beyond the house signposted Kings Yard. 1km up this road there take a right turn again signposted Kings Yard. Continue through a woodland, across a stone bridge over a stream. Turn right at the next junction (left will bring you to kings yard as well but if you're car is low profile you won't be happy) and then left at the next junction. Continue to Kings Yard and start. Parking is limited so we would encourage people to car pool where possible to save any hassle (the overflow car park is a field and if its wet... well we've all seen what happens at the ploughing championships).

Volunteers (Running)

Check with race director if they have a need for people volunteering and running. Race directors need a minimum number of people available throughout the race to make the race work so non-running volunteers are preferable. While it can be helpful, volunteering in a volunteer and race capacity does not count towards qualifying for end of year prize
