Paul JoyceSep 2 2015, 4:23pmThe last Nav challenge will take place around Annagh Hill & environs, in South Wicklow. Long course circa 15-20km, short course circa 10km. Further details on the event page, any queries ask here.
Paul JoyceSep 6 2015, 10:32pmI've just seen the final map for NC3- a new map of Annagh and Croghan. Pat Healy has done a sterling job on this, and I'm sure it will be hugely appreciated by all on the day, and will set the standard for mapping Annagh for many years to come.
Pat created this map based on my ground surveys, so any errors are down to me. The brilliant cartography- more correctly described as cARTography- is down to Pat and his talent, and much appreciation goes to him for his work.
Mick HanneySep 8 2015, 7:35pmI've seen the draft map and its looking great, thanks to Pat and Paul. Looking forward to seeing how people tackle it. Annagh is a great hill for a run.

Everything is ready here in South Wicklow for tomorrow's final race in the Nav Challenge Series. A few things to note:
If you have not run with IMRA in 2015 please fill out and bring along a 2015 registration form ( https://www.imra.ie/ad-hoc/IMRAMembershipForm2015.pdf )
Course time limit is 4 hours. A long course early start will be granted only to those who have already completed Nav 1 and 2 long course, should they want to start early. Everyone else will turn over their maps at 11am and begin.
The race course entails crossing public roads- the roads are not very busy, however please exercise caution.
There are a couple of newly erected wire fences that may need to be crossed, not shown on the map. Likewise there may be areas listed as forestry or vegetation on the map that have since undergone felling. Not every path or track is shown on the map. There will be punchboxes on the map numbered 1-10 for your convenience, however you may use any part of the map to punch a control. So long as you return with all 10 LC (or any 5 SC), and most importantly with a smile on your face. See you all tomorrow!
Paul JoyceSep 13 2015, 3:19pmA good turnout in South Wicklow, on a morning of heavy downpours for the runners. Everyone made it back safe and sound, some very fast times overall with good running between the controls.

Angus TynerSep 13 2015, 5:40pmThanks Paul and Mick and to Derek who manned laptop for the NC series. Zoë enjoyed today, especially the weather! Similar weather to NC1. Shame on Don & Ruth for organising the fine weather for NC2 :D
Mick HanneySep 13 2015, 7:20pmStrava fly-by feature for those that loaded up their runs is a great overview of people's trials and tribulations in the rain.

James H CahillSep 13 2015, 11:25pmThank you Paul, Mick, Laurence, and Derek for a great excursion into the hills. Great course, really enjoyable. Also picked up a Puma jacket that was left behind. Navy Blue, can get it to whoever owns it at the Dublin Peaks - you'll have to run in the peaks to get it back!
Mick HanneySep 14 2015, 5:11pmGreat report Greg. Any other would-be reporters?

As a local I probably would have done the route that Seamus/Adrian did, although in my case I think I would have taken on the side with most controls before scooping up the last 2 on the other side. Very interesting to see the different strategies employed on the day.
Gavan DohertySep 14 2015, 5:50pmMap uploaded to https://www.imra.ie/photos/view/id/109885/ (ie as a photo of the event). It'll give a bit more context to Greg's excellent race report (https://www.imra.ie/events/report/id/1271/). My route (aka 'how not to do it') is in a green/red line on the map.

Huge thanks to Paul Joyce for volunteering to Race Direct. Paul was active a few years back but has done more volunteering over the last few years than running. He's right in saying that there's a great spirit in IMRA but it's made up of people like himself - genuine thanks fully deserved.

I was particularly glad of the chance to take part in a Nav Challenge (it's been a few years) and thoroughly enjoyed it despite the weather's best efforts!

Thanks also to this year's other RDs (Rachel, Don/Ruth) and the small army of volunteers that made the 3 events possible. We'll be looking for volunteer RDs for 2016!!
Brendan DelaneySep 14 2015, 8:25pmHi James, the jacket is mine. Unfortunately I won't be around for the Dublin Peaks, but I'll be at Powerscourt.
James H CahillSep 15 2015, 12:42amHi Brendan, no problem I'll keep your jacket safely until Powerscourt (unless we meet at orienteering before)
Lorcan FarrellOct 28 2015, 2:09pmHi Folks, is there any chance of having the results of the Nav 3 race posted up officially so that we can keep track of the different races we have run on our MyIMRA accounts. I was just going over the different races I took part in this year and noticed it wasn't there.

Cheers,

Lorcan
Pól Ó MurchúOct 28 2015, 2:56pmWill be up in the coming days Lorcan. Just working on tidying up some missing results at the moment.
Paul JoyceOct 28 2015, 7:44pmPól's job is made much harder when Luddite race director's don't bother using the laptop on the day.

For my part, posting manual race results on the forum should suffice. A soggy muck-stained sheet of results remains deep within my festering kit bag and is available for inspection upon request. Its more fun that way :)
Mick HanneyOct 28 2015, 8:27pmSpeaking of Annagh a winter league race there in 2016 would be welcome and is hereby proposed. There is an offer of local coordination of it, so we'll come up with a fun and challenging route for y'all. We had a nice mucky race there on the Bank Holiday Monday last which was won by Tom Hogan.
