Bronagh CheethamMay 2 2013, 11:20amhi. Some folk made suggestions to me after last years Powerscourt Uphill race on how to better coordinate the start time back with 'base camp'. feel free to make your suggestions here or email me direct on bronaghcheetham01@gmail.com with any suggestions. Better still volunteer and come along and do that role for me on the day. Im anything but technically minded! need plenty of summit marshalls for this race. thanks
Jeff SwordsMay 2 2013, 11:33amWere we that much out with the times last year ? I was doing laptop and remember phone coverage was sketchy alright, maybe a Mission Impossible synchronise your watches type of thing with the summit marshal and assume they start at 7:30 on the dot ?

Eoin KeithMay 2 2013, 11:38amIf it really matters (and personally it doesn't!) then you can use any GPS devices for synchronisation. The whole GPS systems depends on perfect time synchronisation to function, so any 2 GPS devices in Ireland will be reading exactly the same time once they are locked on to the satellites.

But really, so what! It's not that important. The race will be the same. The time differences between the finishers will still be the same. Conditions on the evening will more than likely make the biggest difference to finishing times...
Jeff SwordsMay 2 2013, 11:54amI thought anyone with a GPS unit would have identical times also.

I can see where some people are coming from though with having an accurate time recorded, they would be racing against themselves from previous years and would see it as nice to have an accurate record of their progress, or lack thereof.
John J BarryMay 2 2013, 12:12pmGood idea with 'synchronisation' with using GPS but a drawback is the laptop operator having to modify 200+ entries by 'x' seconds. A thankless task and of little benefit.

I agree with Eoin, does it really matter? Just go with an expected 7:30 start.
John LangenbachMay 2 2013, 12:33pmGiven the country this race is in, just tell everyone else the race will be at 7:30 but let the laptop operator know you plan to start at exactly a fixed but secret time later (and hold them on the line until that moment).
Bronagh CheethamMay 3 2013, 9:01pmthanks for the comments, Jeff yes we were pretty much to the second last year and I was happy out with what we did, just wanted to give folk the chance to comment if they wanted us to try something else based on the few comments last year on this (nothing negative just feedback). definately dont want the task of amending all results post race for the sake of it! we'll more than likey work on same 'simple' approach unless someone has a strong view on anything different that warrants considering. cheers all.
Jill WalkerMay 9 2013, 12:50amDo you still need volunteers for this? Myself and Pauline Cleary (IMRA no 111) would like to volunteer (non runners). We only started IMRA in Jan this year so haven't volunteered before - I'm not sure how it works.
Jeff SwordsMay 9 2013, 9:48amHi Bronagh,

I stuck myself down as a volunteer the other day, I heard you last night ask for a laptop operator. I can help out there again if you want, bearing in mind it was this race last year when I last worked the laptop so I may be a bit rusty.
Donal TroddynMay 9 2013, 12:44pmHi, Bronagh (& Jeff),

I spoke to you about doing the LO last night, but I can't log in at the minute to accept. I'm still happy to do it.

Dónal

Jeff SwordsMay 9 2013, 12:51pmThat's fine by me Donal. I can do any other role then.
Donal TroddynMay 9 2013, 12:59pmMe too, Jeff. I could also help out with first aid or marshalling, if that suits Bronagh.
Ruth LynamMay 10 2013, 8:07pmHi Bronagh, I'm happy to be a summit marshal. Ruth
Bronagh CheethamMay 10 2013, 10:11pmJill /Pauline - tks have added you to the volunteer list, if you can update your profile with your email address or send onto me please. tks
Ruth- cheers have put you down for summit,
Jeff - tks have put you down as registration volunteer
will issue email over next day or so with details to all volunteers

thanks all - have enough volunteers now - but if someone wants to station themselves at Glencormack Inn pre race and help organise folk into car pools that would be great - let me know and I'll get you a high vis jacket.
James H CahillMay 10 2013, 11:49pmHi Bronagh, I am also available as a summit marshall if that is of assistance?
Jill WalkerMay 12 2013, 7:57pmHi Bronagh, I am having trouble logging into MyIMRA. My email address is jill@peoplepotential.ie I can pass on any message to Pauline - I don't have her email. What time do we need to be at Crone Car Park?
elizabeth wheelerMay 13 2013, 10:16amHi guys, I am looking for a lift on Wednesday - from town/N11 or a dart station - my email is elizabeth.r.wheeler@gmail.com....thanks!
Laura SchwirzMay 13 2013, 11:47amSame here, looking for a lift from town or along the N11. Could cycle out to UCD flyover too.

Thanks,
Laura
Gareth LittleMay 13 2013, 12:32pm
Leaving Dalkey at 18:30 and passing through Kilmacanogue if anyone needs a lift? If so please use carpool section to book, thx

Bronagh CheethamMay 14 2013, 6:43pmsome final reminders/points:
- One early start at 7pm
- Registration closing at 7.20
- Anyone still running at 8.30 will be asked to return back with summit marshalls for safety reasons. Please use early start if think you will be longer than this.
- Usual Carpooling rules: must Car pool at Kilmacanogue if dont have own arrangements made.
- All runners must bring waterproof jacket/hat (for return down)
- Please return ASAP after reaching summit. think of us volunteers down at Crone awaiting everyones arrival back (and prob been eaten alive by midges!)
- Finishers must touch Cairn (or marked point!) at summit to finish - please stay within the marked finish chute and/or high vis jacketed marshalls. Bare in mind that they have to manually record each runner and time.

Bronagh CheethamMay 15 2013, 12:59pmAnyone else free to help with Summit Marshalling, some cancellations so could do with another person if possible. tks
Warren SwordsMay 16 2013, 11:29amGreat race last night. Big thanks to all the volunteers and organisers. It's a tough race to volunteer at.

I still can't feel my legs.
Bronagh CheethamMay 16 2013, 11:50ambig thank-you to all the volunteers last night making it a smooth and sucessful night - no lost or injured runners which is the main concern as RD. Credit to the summit team who had the toughest job of the night...thank you guys and hope all fingers and toes coming back to normal now. special mention also to James who stayed with Sarah till she got her car sorted and extra special thanks to Donal who was up into the twilight hours sorting the results. Also to Mike marking course and route marshalls.

EARLY STARTERS: If you were an early starter and hadnt ticked the 'early start' on the sign in sheets, drop a note on the forum here when you notice your particularly 'fast time' when the results go up and we'll amend your results accordingly.

LOST & FOUND: a small key (locker/bike type) was left in the key bag which I'll bring to next race. Also a black fleece and t-shirt which will be with the race gear next week.

thanks
Bronagh
John CondonMay 16 2013, 12:13pmThanks to Bronagh and the rest of the crew for a great race last night. Big Up to the Summit Marshals especially
Justin O'KeeffeMay 16 2013, 12:23pmThanks to all volunteers & Bronagh for running an excellent race - it has to be one of my favourites. Well done to all
Donal TroddynMay 16 2013, 5:13pmHi, everyone,

I transcribed the results last night and I'm certain there are a few errors in there (mine, by the way, not from the summit marshalls who did a great job recording the results). If you see one, please let me know and I'll recheck the paper results for your number.

Also, some early starters may not have checked the early start box on the sign-in sheets, so please let us know if your time is 30 minutes too short.

Thanks,
Dónal
James TuckerMay 16 2013, 5:25pmHey Donal,

I timed myself as 44:50 but the results have me down as 84:42. I was definitely at least one person behind Mick Hanney though so I think I might have come in after Kyle Heron. (I could be wrong though so if anyone further down knows that they finished ahead let me know!)

Cheers
James TuckerMay 16 2013, 5:31pmBut sure worst case scenario, at least I still beat Greg Byrne! ;-)
Jean O'NeillMay 16 2013, 5:42pmI was an early starter-I ticked the box OK-but I figured I ran about 56 to 58 mins. So I am wondering was the early start time calculaetd as from 7pm-we didn't start till several minutes after that.
Anthony O'ReillyMay 16 2013, 5:44pmJames, ya never know, it could have been a photo finish......

.......think I heard a drum roll going off in the distance.......
Ger LawlorMay 16 2013, 5:44pmJames,
That's seems right as I am down as finishing behind Kyle but I was actually trying to catch up with you!
Jean O'NeillMay 16 2013, 5:44pmContinuing-my time was given in results as 62.55
Richard NunanMay 16 2013, 5:50pm@ James

I thought I saw you heading off at 7:00pm with Greg, you were both easily 40 minutes behind me!!!
Robert O'BrienMay 16 2013, 6:17pmHi, my time is down as 78:45 but I know that's not right. I was directly behind Barry Moore when touching the monument/trig.
John CondonMay 16 2013, 6:33pmLikewise I was a couple of places behind Peter Bell. I had a time of 48.20
John CondonMay 16 2013, 6:35pmLikewise I was a couple of places behind Peter Bell. I had a time of 48.20
Greg ByrneMay 16 2013, 6:37pmHi Donal, just to let you know I was 8th, about 2 seconds behind Mark Sheridan, but feel free to leave the results as it is for a free days to allow Richard and James enjoy the moment. Greg
John CondonMay 16 2013, 6:44pmLikewise I was a couple of places behind Peter Bell. I had a time of 48.20
John CondonMay 16 2013, 6:44pmLikewise I was a couple of places behind Peter Bell. I had a time of 48.20
Paul SteeleMay 16 2013, 6:52pmHi just to let you know that Gordon Douglas 244 was an early starter, his time recorded is very fast, too fast. That or he has being taking performance enhancing drugs. I know he would want that corrected, he being an extremely honest chap.
Ciaran AylwardMay 16 2013, 7:12pmHi Donal,

I think top 8 should be: Brian Mac, Ian, Des, John Brennan, Jason Reid, Ciaran Aylward, Mark, Greg.

Thanks
John CondonMay 16 2013, 7:37pmApologies. Didn't mean to repeat my post.

John
Peter BellMay 16 2013, 8:01pmHi my result is wrong too. Cheers peter bell 307
Donal TroddynMay 16 2013, 9:30pmHi, guys,

Thanks for the updates. Here's what I have so far:

Race No Name Time Reason for correction
-----------------------------------------------------
307 James Tucker 45.05 Transcription error
185 Robert O'Brien 44.34 Cannot find result/runner testimoney
275 John Condon 48.02 Transcription error
307 Peter Bell 48.02 Transcription error
614 Greg Byrne 38.33 Transcription error
244 Gordon Douglas 72.36 Transcription error
80 Ruth Jackson 60.30 Transcription error
983 Anthony Byrne 62.42 Transcription error

Jean (and other early starters), I was under the impression that the early start was at 1900 on the dot, so whatever the offest was, it will have to be subtracted from the early starters' times, with the exception of Mike Gomm, who self reported. The early starters were:

13 492 112 169 833 837
448 25 920 974 823 155
929 130 905 268 303 904
779 863 862 927 714 778
520 80 244 1014 1047 953
12 244

Again, my apologies for the faults. Due to the circumstances, I was short of time inputting the results, and I suspect there's a few more problems. Also, a limitation of manual results recording is that when big groups come in, it's impossible to take times, just numbers. Everyone's given the last recorded time and those numbers are inputted in order, but the order is not always preserved in the results.

sam scrivenMay 16 2013, 9:37pmHi Donal, I'm missing too, 479, just over the 45mins, possibly just after terry lawless.
Very enjoyable race, thanks to Bronagh and all the volunteers.
Sam
Mick HanneyMay 16 2013, 9:43pmYou are in an unenviable position there Donal, fair play.

For next year this event might benefit from a pre-registration option which might allow the laptop to be at the finish and allow for the times to be captured and correlated with the finish sheets. Or a 2nd laptop running the imra database where someone was just pressing the space bar to record the times of the finishers.

The uphill race is always difficult for the RD and volunteers. Thanks for your help putting on a great event guys.

Part of the problem here is early starts. While I fully appreciate some members needing the early start, my perception is that some people starting early are quite capable of being in the main field. I noticed some spritely runners running towards me on Tibradden early last week for instance. It should be by exception, not a norm. The smaller that group the less difficulties arising with results.
Angus TynerMay 16 2013, 9:45pm954 and 930 were both early starters.
Greg ByrneMay 16 2013, 10:02pmI am pretty sure this is the runner who came in 9th, but the number is incomplete in the photo:

Thanks, Mick, we had bad luck this year with circumstances which meant that the results came down very late, but I do think you're right. With 200+ runners, it gets very messy fast. Still, the guys on top did a great job - mostly my transcription to blame so far.

Thanks,
Dónal

p.s. I'm compiling this list so I can supply a complete list of changes or an updated set of results to the Results Secretary, so you won't see a change in the posted results until it's complete

Donal TroddynMay 16 2013, 10:08pmGreg, that's Niall Lynch. We have his result recorded but for some reason it's not on the website. It's being looked at as we speak!

Donal TroddynMay 16 2013, 10:27pmThanks, John, hopefully we can get everyone sorted with their times.
James TuckerMay 17 2013, 1:18amCheers Dónal. Just to point out though, my number is 371. You have me as 307 on your list there.
Donal TroddynMay 17 2013, 7:05amThanks, James, fixed.
Fergal TrantMay 17 2013, 12:18pmHi Bronagh,
Just want to change my time to a early start at 7pm.
Fergal Trant
Gearoid RyanMay 17 2013, 2:44pmHi Dónal,
I think I finished around the 48 minute mark, instead of 88:24 on the results. Thanks. :-)
Gearoid.
Donal TroddynMay 17 2013, 11:00pmThanks, Gearóid, fixed.
Melanie EarwakerMay 18 2013, 11:41amThe Powerscourt results have been updated. Many thanks to Donal for all the time he has spent sorting these out. Having to input every result individually from the time sheets, plus the amount of official and unofficial early starters makes this race a nightmare for the laptop operator.

Any further queries, please email me directly: melanie dot earwaker at imra dot ie

Again many thanks to Donal for all his hard work and effort on results. think this may be one race we rethink on for next years calendar..but food for thought when the time comes ..not now!
Rene BorgAug 2 2013, 9:41pmTeam results are up.
