Route Description:

Race Route

Race to the top of Mweelrea and back from Silver Strand car park, following the route illustrated in the maps tab for this event. There are two mandatory points to reach on the route: The head of the gully on the col north of Mweelrea summit and the summit itself. (https://imra.ie/events/maps/id/2070/).

The route is not marked. Runners must be capable of navigating individually following the race route.

Bad Weather Route:

Course may be altered if weather conditions are determined to be too dangerous. This will be confirmed in the race briefing on the morning of the event. Bad Weather turn around point is head of gully on col north of Mweelrea and marked on map in photos page.

From Westport head to Louisburgh. Go straight through Louisburgh and keep on the main road until you reach the Silver Strand which is signposted.

***There is space booked in a campsite in Lecanvy for the 7th & 8th August. The campsite is at the base of Croagh Patrick and within walking distance of the pier and beach at Lecanvy. See photographs attached to Mweelrea race.

There will be a bbq at the campsite on the evening of Sat 7th August.

All competitors, and particularly those who have not competed this year already, should READ the NEW REGISTRATION GUIDELINES.

We are NO longer accepting MONEY at races.

The route is not marked. Runners must be capable of navigating individually following the race route. This race is suitable for experienced mountain runners only. No juniors permitted.

Mandatory Kit Requirement:

Your IMRA number and the following items must be brought to registration by all athletes:

- Shower and Windproof Jacket*

- Whistle

- Hat

- Gloves

- Map

- Compass

- Face Mask/Buff

The race director will decide on the day what kit must be carried*. Runners failing to carry the mandatory kit as defined by the race director on race day for the duration of the event will be disqualified.

* Under IMRA rules for competitor's safety, it is mandatory to bring and carry a jacket that is shower and wind proof for all races for the entire race. Any competitor seen not carrying or wearing their jacket at any stage in the race will be disqualified. There are no exceptions to this rule!

Registration

Pre-Registration will open at 12:00 and close at 13:15.

There will be an early start at 13:00

We are not using chip timing for this event. Please note that pre-registration will close at 13:15

Volunteers (Non-Running)

You need to have done 2 non-running volunteer roles in a calendar year to qualify for end of year prize

Check with race director if they have a need for people volunteering and running. Race directors need a minimum number of people available throughout the race to make the race work so non-running volunteers are preferable. While it can be helpful, volunteering in a volunteer and race capacity does not count towards qualifying for end of year prize
